Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the demand for fashionable clothes has increased worldwide. People feel that purchasing costly clothes is much better than buying a number of clothes. I disagree with this statement because people can show a variety of clothes if they buy cheaper ones.

First of all, if individuals buy non-expensive clothes, they can get a chance to wear a lot of clothes in their daily life. In addition, they look at different personalities daily. For example, my friend Aman bought a lot of clothes at the Reliance Mall. Also, there was a sale. While we know that people who wear modern clothes, which suits them better.

Furthermore, they can buy more inexpensive clothes; as a result, they can save money. This money can be used for their daily expenses. Moreover, if people have cheaper clothes, they will not be afraid of clothes that get dirty.

To conclude, although expensive clothes look not only better on them but also feel cool in public places, I disagree with this because cheaper clothes bring lots of advantages, including getting a chance to wear different clothes every day and saving money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 186 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack sufficient depth or supporting detail. While you have taken a clear position, the points regarding 'variety' and 'saving money' are not fully explored. To improve, you must expand on your arguments by providing more detailed explanations and concrete examples. The current length prevents a full development of the topic, which is a requirement for higher band scores.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the response. Some transitions feel forced rather than natural. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, well-developed central theme that connects logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'non-expensive clothes' and 'a lot of clothes' are functional but lack the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to fashion, consumer habits, and financial management, while ensuring they are used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'people can show a variety of clothes' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'people who wear modern clothes, which suits them better' (a sentence fragment). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall control of complex structures is inconsistent. To improve, focus on reducing minor errors in subject-verb agreement and sentence construction, and practice using a wider range of complex grammatical forms with greater accuracy.
