Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you present a clear position, the development of ideas is somewhat contradictory. You state you agree with the statement, but your first body paragraph argues entirely in favor of buying cheaper clothes, which creates confusion regarding your stance. The arguments are relevant but lack depth and specific examples. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout and provide more detailed explanations for your points. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully summarize the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'latter view' when the preceding sentence did not clearly define two distinct views. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help create a smoother progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'make them fashion freak', 'give high standard quality', and 'gives better suff'. These errors occasionally impede the natural flow of your writing. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'luxury clothing' and 'branded outfits', but you need to work on collocations and word forms to sound more natural. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions will significantly enhance your writing quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your message. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('I am agree'), article usage ('the cheaper clothes'), and word order. There are also punctuation and spelling errors, such as 'conclution' and 'longivity'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading your work to correct basic grammatical slips and practice using more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
