Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the current world people have different thoughts about buying the clothes. Some people prefer buying expensive clothes which are good in quality and last for few few years. Others prefer to buy less-quality clothes.

On one hand people would believe buying expensive clothes will be good in quality and the fabric of the clothes would look great. So there is no need to have a extra space or closet at house for the clothes. For Instance people want to show off to there friends and relatives about the clothes brand. As these clothes are higher in price and good in quality can easily wear up to couple of years with out damage and no color shading. But there is also a concern the cost of these clothes are higher not all the families are capable to buy these expensive clothes where middle class family or poor family can't afford the price of it.

From the other view we can buy huge clothes instead of buying one expensive dress. The quality of these clothes can be little risky as those manufactured from the low-level brand companies. I do see pros here we can have multiple clothes for less prices and can wear different style everyday when going out. On the other hand we need some extra closet for storage these clothes. Every one can be offered these clothes with lowest prices.

In my opinion having expensive clothes dressing up well will make more confident than buying low quality clothes can some times get damage after your first try. If the price of the expensive clothes is offerbale to all the family can afford the best quality clothes that would be great.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding 'showing off' to friends is a bit simplistic, and the discussion on the middle class is not fully integrated into the main argument. While the position is clear, the supporting points lack depth and specific examples from personal experience, which are requested by the task. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'For instance', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'From the other view'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, for instance, the phrase 'huge clothes' is an unnatural collocation that makes the intended meaning slightly confusing. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of unnatural word choices, such as 'huge clothes' instead of 'a large quantity of clothes' and 'offerbale' (a spelling error). The range is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'good', 'great', and 'bad'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary prevents the response from achieving a higher score. Improving collocations and using more academic synonyms would significantly enhance this section.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the cost of these clothes are higher'), missing articles ('at house'), and awkward phrasing ('can easily wear up to couple of years'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to be noticeable and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures.
