Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no denying that the way of purchasing clothes has been changed in recent years because of modernization. It is often argued that it would be wise to buy quality clothes rather than the cheapest ones. Personally, I believe that both ways are based on the situations of people which I will explain briefly.

One the one side, some people say that expensive clothes have a great quality as it stays for longer. To elaborate on this, People especially youngsters are really behind the fashion and they always buy branded clothes over the cheaper ones because of top quality. For instance, if a person tends to buy branded clothes of Gucci, H&M or Aldo, then its quality would remain the same even after washing and it would not be shrunk. Thus, people should consider carefully before buying clothes.

On the other hand, others individuals opine that cheaper clothes provide varieties as they do not need to stuck on just particular clothes for long time. In other words, when youngsters buy branded clothes which costs more and sometimes they are not satisfied with the color or design and eventually this sense gives them dissatisfaction about the product. So, It would be good if they buy cheaper clothes and can choose multiple options at a reasonable price. Another reason can be financial crisis as half of the generation is not able to buy such a expensive attires. Therefore, cheaper clothes can be best option for the ordinary people.

To conclude, I would say that both choices have their own roles and it also depends on the choices and financial conditions of a person.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt, but the position is not fully developed. You state that you believe 'both ways are based on the situations of people,' which is a balanced approach, but you do not clearly argue for or against the prompt's premise of 'better' quality versus quantity. The ideas are relevant, such as durability versus variety and financial constraints, but they are somewhat under-developed. To reach a higher band, ensure your position is clear throughout the essay and provide more depth in your supporting arguments rather than just listing reasons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one side,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conclude' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'One the one side' (should be 'On one side'). Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence starters.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'branded clothes,' 'financial crisis,' and 'reasonable price.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'stuck on just particular clothes' (should be 'stuck with') and 'expensive attires' ('attire' is an uncountable noun). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'cheaper clothes' and 'branded clothes' by using synonyms or paraphrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'the way of purchasing clothes has been changed' (passive voice error), 'it stays for longer' (subject-verb agreement), and 'a expensive attires' (article and noun usage). Punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary capitalization in 'So, It would be good,' also occur. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and aim for more error-free complex sentences.
