Student answer (Band 6.5)

In contemporary society, the decision related to buying clothes is entirely depending on one's personal choice. While some individuals contend that It's a smart idea to purchase high price cloths instead of many cheaper clothes. I completely agree with the above notion and this essay will discuss the reasons behind my view before reaching a feasible conclusion.

One compelling reason behind the preference of buying branded attires rather than cheap clothes is that it is sustainable and cost-effective for long-term. Low-pricing stuffs are not made of good quality material which lead to short-term use only and customers has to buy again and again after some time. As a result, It increase over all expense for them. However, branded cloths are made of high quality material which can be reuse for years. For instance, Nike t-shirts are wearable even after wearing of 3-4 years. While, T-shirts which is around price 5-10$ hardly wearable for 1-2 months. Thus, purchasing expensive clothes is intelligent decision as it's save money in long-term.

Moreover, Expensive branded stuffs are more comfortable and uplift overall presence of a person that worth every single penny. Clothes are something that one has to wear all day and the quality of cloths somehow improve individuals appearance. For example, If one person wearing good quality expensive dress at a meeting, he will feel more comfortable and confident about himself. Therefore, Buying few expensive attires is like a investment for better lifestyle which makes people feel better.

To conclude, Although some people love to buy impulsively at lower cost, it is better choice to purchase a few branded high-pricing clothes that are made of premium raw material which are comfortable and upgrade overall appearance of an individual.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and personal confidence are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the comparison between Nike t-shirts and cheaper alternatives. The ideas are extended sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, the student could further develop the counter-argument or explore the environmental impact of 'fast fashion' to add more depth to the discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with mechanical cohesion, such as the sentence fragment 'While, T-shirts which is around price 5-10$ hardly wearable for 1-2 months.' Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that referencing is more precise would help achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though there are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors. For example, 'high price cloths' should be 'expensive clothing' or 'high-quality garments', and 'branded attires' is slightly unnatural. The student uses some good phrases like 'compelling reason' and 'premium raw material', but the repetition of 'stuffs' and 'cloths' (when 'clothing' is the correct uncountable noun) limits the range. More precise vocabulary would enhance the sophistication of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('customers has to buy', 'It increase over all expense') and article usage. Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with 'While,' or 'And'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and sentence boundaries would significantly improve the accuracy.
