Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that buying a few expensive clothes is better than buying lots of cheaper clothes.I totally oppose both the statments. I believe that we should buy some expensive clothes for special occasions or festivels and few cheaper clothes to wear at home or in daily routine.

Firslty, If someone has a limited budget for clothes they can only buy a few of expensive clothes due to this they will have very limited styles or colors. And due to limited number of clothes they have to wear it more often. Although expensive clothes will be better in quality and will look like new for couple of months. Moreover buying expensive clothes for kids are not suitable becasue when they grow old they need a bigger size of clothes. For example, we have to buy a new pair of clothes every year for my son because of his growing body his clothes gets tire on him.

On the other hand, buying a cheaper clothes will give you a more styles and colour option to wear. However, due to cheap quality they will get old after few washes. And sometime waring a cheap clothes in events can lower confidence and selfesteme. For example, If someone wear a cheap clothes in college reunion party. It will be hard for him to impress hi old friends of girlfriends.

In conclusion, it is better to buy some expensive clothes for events or parties and cheaper clothes for daily routine. In this way its easy to manage the budget and has a variety of option to wear in daily life and in special occasions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a balanced position, arguing that a mix of both expensive and cheap clothing is ideal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like the son's growth and the college reunion, the arguments remain relatively superficial. The introduction states you 'oppose both the statements,' but the prompt is a single statement, which creates a slight confusion in the opening. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more thoroughly extended and that you clearly address the implications of your position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Moreover,' and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'due to this they will have very limited styles.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'expensive clothes' and 'cheaper clothes' throughout the text. There are also noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'statments,' 'festivels,' 'selfesteme,' and 'tire' (instead of 'tight'). To improve, focus on using a wider range of synonyms and collocations related to fashion, budgeting, and social situations, and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'buying expensive clothes for kids are not suitable'), article usage (e.g., 'a more styles'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical consistency, particularly with pluralization and verb forms.
