Student answer (Band 6.5)

Resources are scarce and their optimum use depends upon the decision making power of individuals. Further, the decisions are influenced by the personal beliefs, choices, needs and psychological pattern of thoughts. Some people believes in quality over quantity in scenario of spending money on clothes. I am personally in favor of purchasing good quality material instead of buying in number of comparatively cheaper items in bulk.

The money spent on branded clothes is equivalent to money used for investment purposes. Undoubtedly, there probably would be no return on that investment in terms of money but definite in terms of clothes life. As this has been observed expensive clothes do not worn out in one or two year. In most scenarios, these items moved onto next generation as legacy such as silk items, leather goods and woolen stuff. Surprisingly, with minimal expenditures they revived back as well.

Furthermore, the branded items are associates with person prosperity. In this era, to depict the image of being wealthier and have goodwill in the market, the individuals are left with no other choice except wearing expensive clothes. While meeting with friends, relatives, colleagues and even family members, their first observation goes to what person is carrying on them? And later becomes the topic of discussion. In simple words, for society's sake the person has to choose costly items in comparison to ordinary ones.

Accepting the fact, having lots of clothing items in almirah implies wearing new piece of cloth for every new event with minimum repetition. However, the quality suffers at greater extent in terms of material used in production, clothes becoming dull after one or two washes maximum, ill representation in society.

Overall, money spent on good quality clothes inevitably higher but gives a sense of satisfaction in terms of great life of clothes with minimum or no damage to them over the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding the durability of expensive items and the social implications of clothing choices. The ideas are generally well-developed, although some points, such as the claim that expensive clothes are 'equivalent to money used for investment purposes,' could be more nuanced. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully supported with more concrete examples rather than generalizations about society's expectations. Overall, the task is addressed adequately with a clear, logical progression of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the argument. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore,' 'In simple words,' and 'However' to link ideas. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother in places. For instance, the connection between the second and third paragraphs could be strengthened to improve the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central topic of each paragraph is clearly identifiable, which helps the reader follow your line of reasoning without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, including terms like 'optimum use,' 'expenditures,' and 'prosperity.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder precision. For example, 'revived back' is redundant, and 'associates with person prosperity' should be 'associated with personal prosperity.' Additionally, 'clothes life' is not a standard collocation; 'longevity of clothing' would be more natural. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, these minor errors indicate a need for more careful attention to word choice to achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people believes'), incorrect verb forms ('expensive clothes do not worn out'), and missing articles or incorrect prepositions ('in scenario of,' 'at greater extent'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently, especially when discussing general truths or hypothetical situations.
