Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that purchasing costly clothing is a better investment than frequent buying of cheap clothes. It is a personal preference and depends upon the perspective of a buyer. I believe that one time investment in quality dresses is more economically, environmentally beneficial for both consumers and producers.
Nowadays many people tend to shop multiple times in a month just to follow the trend of alternating fashion. It is considered unattractive if a person is often seen in a similar clothing, thereby compelling people to buy more frequently. Affordable textiles provide various options at low prices which may sometimes be less time consuming. However, this practice is not environment friendly as it generates significant waste and increases the cost of recycle and manufacturing. For example, some clothing brands are accused of pouring incredible amount of money in recycling waste than making new products.
Although expensive clothing seems insensible at first sight, it is rather a thoughtful decision to make. A premium fabric is suitable to skin, durable, and maintains the same quality for longer time; hence, it proves better use of money. Arguably, it demands unjustified brand value; however, in some cases it proves itself an asset. For instance, a high-branded expensive limited edition leather jacket cost much more after years of its launch.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of buying fewer, higher-quality items. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments provided. While the points regarding environmental impact and durability are relevant, they are not fully developed. The conclusion is abrupt and lacks a summary of the main points, which is a requirement for a well-developed response. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure that each paragraph provides sufficient supporting evidence to meet the length requirement and fully explore the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Although', and 'For instance' are used to link ideas. However, the transition between the environmental argument and the durability argument could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall structure feels incomplete due to the lack of a formal concluding paragraph. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more thoroughly linked and that you include a clear, summarizing conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'economically', 'environmentally beneficial', 'premium fabric', and 'unjustified brand value'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'more economically, environmentally beneficial' (should be 'more economically and environmentally beneficial') and 'pouring incredible amount of money' (should be 'spending an incredible amount of money'). While the vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring grammatical accuracy when using complex adjectives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that slightly impede the flow, such as 'one time investment' (should be 'a one-time investment'), 'less time consuming' (should be 'less time-consuming'), and 'cost much more' (should be 'costs much more'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but there are instances where articles are missing or misused. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and compound adjectives. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures will also help improve your score in this criterion.
