Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that it is effective to purchase several expensive outfits instead of countless cheaper clothes. I completely agree with this view, as buying costly and high-quality clothes can not only have long shelf-life but also provides comfort.

One of the main reasons for having some premium clothes for daily wear is offers durability and material excellence.

This is largely because high-quality outfits do not tend tear and crumble even after being washed multiple times.

For instance, in China, a large number of individuals invest on branded clothes such as H&M and Zara so they can wear them for many years. Although some expensive clothing items tend to become fragile with time, which is unlikely to happen depending upon usage. As a result, some premium outfits are far more convenient and comfortable than having a number of cheaper clothes.

Another significant factor contributing for buying high-quality clothes is that is can be considered as one time investment. This is mainly due to the fact that even if it gets old, the quality of the fabrics stay the same.

To illustrate, in India, a large number of shoppers waste a significant amount of their money to purchase many low-quality outfits but later become disappointed with the fabric used on clothes. If many people will purchase costly piece of clothing, they can also save money for the long run. Consequently, it is better to invest money in costly outfits rather than spending on number of low-quality clothes.

In conclusion, it is widely argued that purchasing less costly outfits is better than numerous cheaper clothes. I firmly agree with the perspective due to its quality, durability and comfort.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on durability and long-term financial benefits. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For example, the claim that H&M and Zara are 'premium' brands is factually questionable in the context of the argument, which weakens the support for your position. While the main points are clear, they could be extended with more sophisticated reasoning or nuanced examples to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but ensure that your supporting examples are more logically aligned with the definition of 'expensive' or 'high-quality' clothing to strengthen your overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'This is mainly due to the fact that', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing. For example, the transition 'Another significant factor contributing for buying' is slightly awkward. Additionally, some sentences feel repetitive in their structure. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') clearly points back to the intended antecedent to improve the overall flow and cohesion of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'durability', 'material excellence', and 'one time investment'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'invest on branded clothes' (should be 'invest in') and 'do not tend tear' (missing 'to'). The use of 'premium' to describe high-street brands like H&M is also a lexical inaccuracy in this context. To achieve a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and avoid repeating basic words. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated synonyms for 'expensive' or 'cheap' would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'is offers durability' (should be 'offers'), 'it is can be considered' (should be 'it can be considered'), and 'spending on number of' (missing an article). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed with correct auxiliary verbs.
