Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely contended fact of jet-set age that weather if it is beneficial to purchase few highly valued clothes or spending alot on low cost clothes. My views are in synchronisation with the former notion.

On the one hand, there are multitudinous advantages for buying few expensive clothes. Fist and foremost, expensive clother are more durable due to which their quality remains same after being worn again and again including after number of wahes. due to which making initial extra payment delivers its value by remaining the same throughout. so buing expensive clothes is a long term investment. To epitomize, an expensive winter jacket keeps us more warm and remain the sam efor many years whereas, cheap jackets loose their warmth and colour after one season.

In addition, when we buy expensive clother we do not need to buy large number of clothes due to which we eventually save money. For example, a recent survey conducted in London University revealed that, people spend more money while purchasing low-cost clothing products because they over-purchase to follow the trend and throw them after one or two washes due to bad quality and fashion trends on the other hand echelons spending more money on expensive clothes are less likely to waste money on unnecessary clothes. In this way, buying good quality clothes are beneficial because it causes very less wastage that protects the environment from getting polluted.

To recapitulate agglomerating all the points mentioned above I would like to reiterate that i do concur with the former notion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of buying fewer, more expensive clothes. The ideas are relevant, focusing on durability, long-term cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument regarding environmental impact is introduced late and could have been expanded further. While the position is consistent throughout, the essay lacks a more sophisticated exploration of the counter-argument or a more nuanced conclusion. The response meets the requirements of the task, but the depth of analysis remains at a functional level rather than a fully developed one.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'In addition', and 'To recapitulate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'due to which making initial extra payment'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother with more varied linking phrases and better control over sentence-level cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary range is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'multitudinous', 'epitomize', and 'echelons'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'widely contended fact of jet-set age', 'clother' (repeatedly), and 'agglomerating all the points'. These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not impede overall understanding. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and more natural collocations rather than relying on complex words that are used incorrectly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('jackets loose their warmth'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('weather if it is beneficial'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. More attention to proofreading for subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries is essential.
