Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, individuals have different preferences regarding buying clothes. While some believe that buying expensive clothes are more beneficial instead of spending money on countless inexpensive ones, others argue that affordable clothes are more beneficial as they can be changed according to the trend .I disagree with the first vies and believe that buying cheapest attire is more substantial as people can change their clothes according to new tread .

One compelling reason why purchasing affordable clothes provides more advantages is that people have numerous choice about wearing different outfit according to their mood and trend which is not possible in terms of few expensive clothes. For example , young generation mostly buy a lots of clothes instead of purchasing one piece of clothes as they easily get board from one outfit .Therefore, individuals prefer to spend some money on different design clothes instead of some expensive clothes.

Another factor that encourage inexpensive clothes is financial condition. Since, purchasing branded clothes highly demands for a large amount of money which is not practically possible for all people especially middle class families. Moreover, such individuals prefer to buy less expensive clothes , allowing them to spending money on other necessary things. For instance, Indian middle class families always look for affordable outfits while shopping in street markets as they have not enough salaries . Consequently, purchasing few costly stuff can be ignored for saving money.

In conclusion, while some people prefer to buy expensive outfits as they are more addorable , I disagree with this perspective as it resists individuals to wear different designed clothes and not everyone can afford it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding fashion trends and financial constraints are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the ideas could be extended with more sophisticated analysis. For instance, the discussion on 'financial condition' is a strong point, but the explanation remains at a general level. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it introduces a slight shift in terminology ('addorable' instead of 'expensive'). Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, but the depth of argumentation is consistent with a mid-range band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Therefore', 'Another factor', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences feels slightly disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the distinct arguments, which helps the overall readability of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'compelling reason' and 'substantial', but there are also noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'vies' (views), 'tread' (trend), 'board' (bored), and 'addorable' (durable/affordable). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accurate collocation and spelling of more sophisticated terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('buying expensive clothes are', 'another factor that encourage') and article usage ('the young generation', 'a lots of'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of misplaced spaces before commas. While the student attempts complex structures, these are often marred by errors. The control of grammar is sufficient to convey the message, but the frequency of errors prevents a higher score.
