Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has always been a matter of debate whether we should buy expensive clothes or cheap ones. Many individuals say it is better to invest in few branded clothes rather than collecting variety of budget-friendly clothes. I certainly disagree with this view. Even though, branded clothes are visually more appealing but it does not mean we should wear same clothes frequently.

To commence with, having a few branded clothes may create hygiene issues and are more prone to wear and tear, due to repeated use and wash. If any individual have limited expensive clothes, they might wear them more frequent and ends up buying more clothes. As repeatedly wearing same garments may affect its durability. Moreover, if any individual does not wash clothes after every use, they may more vulnerable to skin infections such as itching and rashes. Therefore, it is better to buy more clothes at cheaper price rather than having a few branded articles . For instance, the quality of garments depend upon its fabric not on its price and brand.

Furthermore, a middle class individuals have limited budget for their clothes and they have to go to work every day. Instead of buying a few expensive clothes, they prefer to buy variety of clothes from local market at cheap price to change it every day as per their office requirement. If taken care properly, local clothes may not solely stand out but also durable. If any indivdual comes under peer pressure and invest a large chunk of money into expensive clothes just to get few compliments , they may struggle financially.

To sum up, branded clothes may help to get you compliments from friend and family but having only few of them leads to hygiene issue and more wear and tear of clothes. I beleive it is always better to buy variety of clothes at cheaper prise. By taking care of them, we may have options to wear every day and they are also cost- efficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding hygiene, durability, and financial constraints to support your disagreement with the statement. The ideas are extended, though some points, such as the claim that branded clothes are more prone to wear and tear, could be more nuanced, as this often depends on material quality rather than the brand itself. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a logical flow of ideas that directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'If any individual have limited expensive clothes, they might wear them more frequent and ends up buying more clothes.' Despite these minor lapses, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'budget-friendly', 'durability', and 'cost-efficient'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'collecting variety of budget-friendly clothes' (should be 'a variety of') and 'expensive clothes... are more prone to wear and tear' (which is a questionable generalization). Spelling errors like 'beleive' and 'prise' also occur. To reach a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and ensure consistent spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('any individual have', 'they may more vulnerable') and article usage ('a middle class individuals'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization and verb forms. The sentence structure is generally functional, but increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy would help improve your score.
