Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many argue that instead of purchasing lots of affordable dresses, one should invest money in a few expensive clothes. I disagree with this statement as I believe that we should not spend significant amount of money on daily wears.
We need different kind of clothes to wear on day to day basis. We cannot wear the same clothes in the summer and winter. In winter we need full-sleeve clothes such as sweater, but it is not possible to wear that on a hot day. In addition to this, by only purchasing limited number of pairs, we limit ourselves wearing the same clothes everywhere. For instance, it is not appropriate to wear office dress on a vacation. Because of these reasons, I think that only having a few clothes will not work.
Moreover, our physical attributes change over time. For example, I purchased a very expensive suit for my graduation. Since, I have gained weight after that, I have not been able to wear that suit again. On top of that, because of the latest fashion trends, people's styles and choices change very frequently. On one month someone might be into streetwear but the next month they might prefer old school clothes. That is why I believe it does not make sense to invest a lot of money in a single pair of clothes.
To conclude, although many believe that it is a good idea to buy a few number of expensive clothes instead of many cheap clothes, I disagree as we need different kind of clothes based on season and occasion. Also, because people's physique and choices change with time, investing a lot of money is not a good idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for your disagreement, such as the need for seasonal variety and the impact of changing physical attributes or fashion trends. The ideas are extended with personal examples, which helps support your argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully developed; for instance, you could briefly acknowledge the counter-argument (the benefits of quality) before refuting it to provide a more balanced and sophisticated discussion. Overall, the task is well-addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this', 'For instance', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transition words and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure effectively guides the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'purchasing', 'appropriate', and 'physique'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'daily wears' (should be 'everyday wear' or 'daily clothing') and 'a few number of' (should be 'a limited number of'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, incorporating more precise or sophisticated collocations would elevate your score. The errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'different kind of clothes' (should be 'different kinds of clothes') and 'Since, I have gained weight' (the comma after 'Since' is unnecessary). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and pluralization. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures.
