Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is good to buy least expensive clothes instead of buying more cheaper clothes. I fully agree with this statement, and I will discuss reasons behind my standpoint in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with there are several reasons why individuals should buy less clothes that are expensive rather than buying more cheaper clothes. Firstly, a lot of cheaper clothes can get damaged earlier, due to this people just throw them after wearing it for few times. As a result, the garbage gets more and it is hard to decompose clothes, that may affect environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, reaching only 96 words. Because the essay is incomplete and stops abruptly after the second paragraph, the task is not fully addressed. While you establish a clear position in the introduction, the ideas are not developed sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. To improve, you must ensure you complete the essay by providing a full body paragraph and a concluding summary. The current length prevents a full exploration of the arguments, which severely limits the score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows a basic attempt at logical organization by using transition signals like 'To begin with' and 'Firstly'. However, the abrupt ending and the lack of a conclusion disrupt the overall flow. Paragraphing is present, but the second paragraph is incomplete, which hinders the progression of ideas. To improve, ensure that each paragraph contains a fully developed point and that the essay concludes with a summary of your main arguments. The use of cohesive devices is currently too limited to demonstrate a higher level of control.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple phrasing such as 'buy less clothes' and 'get damaged'. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'more cheaper', which is grammatically incorrect and lexically imprecise. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to consumerism, sustainability, and quality, and ensure you use comparative structures correctly (e.g., 'cheaper' instead of 'more cheaper').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors. For example, 'buy least expensive' should be 'buy less expensive', and 'more cheaper' is a double comparative error. Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the missing comma after 'To begin with' and 'Secondly'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of grammatical errors and the lack of a variety of complex structures limit the score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common comparative and superlative errors.
