Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that buying fewer expensive, branded clothes is preferable to buying many cheap items. The response includes reasons such as durability, comfort, and social image, supported by an example featuring Zara and medical professionals. However, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack deeper elaboration, keeping the task response at a Band 6.0 level. For instance, the discussion on durability and material quality is raised multiple times without extending the argument further into other economic or environmental implications.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, representing a coherent overall arrangement. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as durability versus professional image. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The student uses basic or awkward transitions like 'To begin with,' and 'Furthermore,' and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'Cloth has a significant impact on public mindset such as when they wear it they feels overjoy.' Cohesive devices are often inadequate or repetitive, reflecting Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'peronality,' 'flexibility,' and 'overjoy,' but there are frequent word-choice errors and spelling mistakes ('adreesed', 'dreesed', 'vairous', 'clother', 'appron'). While the range is minimally adequate to convey the basic message about fashion and spending, inaccurate collocations and lexical errors prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Vocabulary control is limited, making this performance sit comfortably at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles (e.g., 'it is good to spend a money', 'expensive clothes has a good material', 'the people like to spend', 'doctors always wears'). Punctuation is also problematic in the opening quotation and run-on sentences. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
