Student answer (Band 6.0)
Fashion is the subtle language through which individuals communicate their confidence, status, and lifestyle without speaking a word. Nowadays, opinions are divided whether consumer should priortize high end apparels over the affordable apparels. I strongly agree with the latter notion because it offers affordablity and adaptability.
One of the prominent reasons is that moderate priced clothes allow individuals to stay within a resaonble budget, leaving income for essential living costs, savings and education. For instance, every middle class family always prefers the affordable apparel. These are easily available in a normal market and donot need to go high end shopping malls. Moreover, fast fashion enables customers to stay in changing trends without compromising with financial resources. Priortising mid price apparels signals a grounded personality that values function and comfort over superficial social status.
The price paid in moderate priced clothing is just for the item that we purchasing, rather than the branding in case of superior clothes. In addition, a high cost of percentage is paid for only branding in luxury clothes rather than physical quality of the cloths. For example, most of luxury brands manufacture their clothes in poor countries like Bangledesh or Veitnam and later sold at high prices after branding. Furthermore, in physical work like agricultural labour or skill trades, expensive clothes will be impractical due to high risk of damage, budget-friendly wear is far more logical.
In conclusion, moderate priced clothing has far more practical upper hand rather than purchasing the branded clothes for just showing off

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response presents a clear position throughout, as the writer immediately states a strong agreement with buying affordable clothes. The main ideas regarding affordability, practicality, and budgeting are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as mentioning luxury brands manufacturing in countries like Bangladesh or Vietnam. However, there is a minor contradiction in the introduction where the writer states 'consumer should priortize high end apparels over the affordable apparels' while intending to support the latter, and the conclusion is slightly abrupt and unfinished. Nevertheless, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 or 7.0. Given the clear positioning and well-developed arguments in the body paragraphs, a score of 6.5 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is generally coherent with a logical overarching structure. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused (e.g., 'Moreover', 'Furthermore'), and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'with the latter notion' when referring to affordable clothes after a slightly confused introductory sentence. The progression of ideas flows reasonably well from budgeting concerns to manufacturing practices and practical daily use, but the abrupt conclusion limits overall cohesion. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptor well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, incorporating terms such as 'subtle language', 'adaptability', 'superficial social status', and 'budget-friendly'. However, there are multiple spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'priortize' instead of 'prioritize', 'apparels' used as an uncountable noun in plural form, 'resaonble' instead of 'reasonable', 'donot' instead of 'do not', and 'Bangledesh' and 'Veitnam'. Additionally, collocation is occasionally awkward, such as 'high cost of percentage'. These errors demonstrate a Band 6 level of lexical resource where an adequate range is attempted with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('clothes that we purchasing') and conditional structures. However, there is a recurring presence of grammatical errors, including missing prepositions, incorrect verb forms ('clothes that we purchasing', 'are easily available... and donot need to go'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('consumer should'). Punctuation is also weak, particularly the lack of a full stop at the very end of the essay. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 7, fitting comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor.
