Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that buying a some number of expensive clothes is better than purchasing a many cheap quality clothes. I agrre with this notion, that purchasing a some number of quality clothes are better as they offers durability and will stay longer than the cheaper ones.

One of the major advantage of buying the expensive clothes is that they are made from the high quality material which provides the consumers with mental peace not to buy clothes again an again. For instance, purchasing a coat can provides durability of mininum three to four years, whereas cheaper clothes only worn once. Secondly buying a stylish and expensive clothes helps the customer to keep wardrobe clean and tidy. For example, by paying for more cheapers clothes the consumer will have the unneccessary stuff in their wardrobe, which may be hinder their selection of wearing the speacial clothes on some special occassions.

Another main crucial point is that prestigeous clothing enhance the aura of the customer as their clothes represents their identity in the society. A relevant example to this is royal suit wear by people of Uk for royal events. Futhermore, the more stylish and costliest clothing increase the overall personality of the individual.

However, cheaper clothes are not worse but clothing needs to be expensive in terms of material rather than paying more for it. The durability of the clothing makes the real difference.

To conclude, buying a generally expensive clothing is far better instead of many cheap quality clothes as clothes represents the person's overall personality. But the clothing needs to be expensive in terms of durability and quality of the materials used in it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear position that buying fewer expensive, high-quality clothes is preferable to purchasing many cheap items. The response develops relevant main ideas, such as durability, maintaining a clean wardrobe, and the psychological impact of quality clothing on personal identity. For instance, the writer notes that 'purchasing a coat can provides durability of mininum three to four years, whereas cheaper clothes only worn once.' While some ideas are slightly repetitive or briefly expressed, the position remains coherent throughout and the arguments are sufficiently extended to meet the requirements of Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the major advantage', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel somewhat mechanical. Referencing and pronoun use are generally clear, though occasional lapses occur, such as in the sentence 'by paying for more cheapers clothes the consumer will have the unneccessary stuff in their wardrobe, which may be hinder their selection.' Overall, the organizational structure is logical enough to ensure smooth progression, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'durability', 'prestigeous', and 'aura'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the essay, including 'agrre', 'cheapers', 'unneccessary', 'speacial', and 'occassions'. The misuse of grammatical forms for vocabulary, such as 'royal suit wear' instead of 'royal suits worn', also detracts from precision. Although these lexical errors are frequent, they do not severely impede communication, making Band 6 an appropriate and fair reflection of the student's lexical capabilities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and agreement, such as 'buying a some number of expensive clothes are better', 'can provides durability', and 'cheaper clothes only worn once'. Punctuation and word-form errors also appear regularly. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning and communication is generally maintained, the high frequency of non-systematic errors prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.0, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
