Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people perfer to purchase limited expensive attires than several budget friendly cloths. The main reason behind this is to idetified themselves elite class and boost their confidence. While their are advantages of this view, I strongly believe that people should prefer pocket friendly cloths to than branded cloths. To begin with, high-end dresses can become financial burden on people who are working on low wages. If individuals start spending their major earnings on premium cloths, I will make an adverse impact on thier other essential needs such as, food and emergency funds. This mainly because it requires huge money. Nowadays, it is commonly seen that youngsters are prioritizing thier attires and, due to this, they are suffering to fulfill their other essential needs like, good quality of food and insufficient funds for emergency situations. Moving further, the more people spend money on branded cloths, the more people are likely to overuse thier credit cards. This over expenditure can sometimes leads to financial burden. Rather than spending largely on expensive dresses, people should buy cloths from local shops. Buying cloths from local market does not mean cheap quality. Many people claimed that buyers can purchase good quality cloths on cheaper rates from local shops becuase they sell same quality but without tags on them. This is why I strongly believe that buying cheap cloths is the best approach. In conclusion, although brand taged cloths can temporarily help people to look rich, I totally disagree with this as it can cause people finacial difficulties.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by taking a clear stance that buying cheaper, pocket-friendly clothes is better than purchasing expensive brands. The writer presents relevant main ideas, such as financial burdens on low-income earners, the temptation of credit card overuse, and the comparable quality of unbranded local clothing. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the reasoning tends to over-generalise without sufficient depth or concrete examples from personal experience. For instance, the argument regarding youngsters struggling for food because of clothing purchases is extreme and lacks elaboration. Despite these limitations in extension, the writer covers all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at organization. The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, though the paragraphing is visually compressed at the beginning. Transitional phrases such as 'To begin with', 'Moving further', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the structure. However, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, 'While their are advantages' contains a spelling error, and transitions between sentences can feel repetitive. Furthermore, paragraphing formatting is irregular with improper spacing. Overall, the organizational structure is apparent, placing it solidly within the Band 6 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'budget friendly', 'financial burden', 'premium cloths', and 'over expenditure'. However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'perfer', 'attires', 'idetified', 'thier', 'finacial') and word choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'clothes' repeatedly misspelled as 'cloths', 'cheaper rates' instead of 'lower prices'). These errors do not seriously impede communication since the reader can easily grasp the intended meaning, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band score. The lexical control is generally sufficient for basic communication, matching the Band 5.5 to 6 range, warranting a 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'If individuals start spending... it will make an adverse impact'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('this over expenditure can sometimes leads'), misuse of pronouns, and awkward phrasing ('high-end dresses can become financial burden'). While these errors are noticeable and require some effort from the reader to decode, they rarely impede overall communication. The presence of both correct complex structures and persistent basic errors firmly places this response at the Band 5.0 level.
