Student answer (Band 6.0)
Recently, there has been a conflicting opinion weather it is better to purchase more clothes at a cheaper rate or few expensive ones. I will discuss both views and also give reasons why I support the former.
On one hand, some people will advocate for luxury clothes at costly rate because of the some reasons. Firstly, to draw attention in the public. Expensive wear is catchy and also stands out in the crowed. For instance, a person wearing Guchi product will always be percieved as wealthy individual, especially by the younger generation. This may lead to an undeserved ovaition which is exactly what majority wanted. Secondly, there is a popular thought that costly garments are the quality products. This makes some persons to patronize it more, believing that it will last longer and probably serve it's purpose efficiently. To illustrate this point, well known brands such as Nike has been noted to withstand a test of time thereby drawing customers from all part of the world.
On the other hand, I am in opposition to the thought. Possesing many clothes at a particular time increases the option of ones attire, and definitely improves the person's sense of dressing. This in addition will be more advantagous if gotten at a lower cost. A typical example of such is, fairly used clothes which come in different styles and at small prices. This has indeed been a source wears for the society especially among the low income earners.
To conclude this, despite the societal views associated with purchasing fewer dresses at a higer rate, I still stand with buying numerous of it with small fund. This is due to the fact that there will be varities to choose from and it is also cost effective.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views and clearly stating their position in support of buying cheaper, numerous clothes. In the introduction, the writer outlines the essay plan and takes a stand. The body paragraphs present relevant ideas, such as social perception and durability for expensive clothes, versus variety and cost-effectiveness for cheaper clothes. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or rely on broad generalisations, such as the claim that expensive wear leads to an 'undeserved ovation' or that fairly used clothes are the main source of wear for low-income earners. The arguments are easy to follow, but deeper extension of examples like Nike or second-hand clothing would push the response into higher band territory. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 6 due to the limited depth of idea extension.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure consisting of an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude this'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or somewhat awkward, such as starting a sentence with 'This in addition will be more advantagous' or referencing 'the some reasons'. Referencing is generally clear, though paragraph internal progression occasionally stumbles due to abrupt shifts between sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points of view, but logical links between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother and more flexible. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'cost-effective', 'advantagous', 'percieved', and 'patronize'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'weather' instead of 'whether', 'crowed' instead of 'crowd', 'Guchi' instead of 'Gucci', 'ovaition' instead of 'ovation', 'Possesing' instead of 'Possessing', and 'higer' instead of 'higher'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the writer from achieving a higher band score. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, matching the criteria for Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing (e.g., 'A typical example of such is, fairly used clothes which come in different styles and at small prices'). There are several grammatical and punctuation errors, including article misuse ('at a costly rate' instead of 'at costly rates', 'in the public'), preposition errors ('draw attention in the public'), and subject-verb agreement or pronoun issues (e.g., 'serve it's purpose', 'numerous of it'). Despite these frequent errors, meaning is rarely obscured and communication remains clear. This balance of mixed structures and persistent non-systematic errors places the grammar firmly at Band 6.
