Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that disagrees with the premise and favors having a larger quantity of cheaper clothes. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations regarding social life, changing physical body shapes, and the desire for variety without breaking financial boundaries. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize and could benefit from further extension. For instance, the discussion on changing body shapes during pregnancy is introduced but not fully linked back to why buying cheaper clothes specifically resolves this. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.0 performance under this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and maintained throughout the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as social motivations in the second paragraph and practical body changes in the third. However, the progression between sentences is sometimes hindered by mechanical or faulty cohesive devices. For example, phrases like 'Moving ahead' feel slightly unnatural in this context, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'the people always looks' where article usage and plural agreement blur the flow. Despite these minor issues, the logical organization is sufficient for a Band 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'viable', 'luxurious', and 'appealing'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'rekcon' instead of reckon, 'occassion', 'comaprative' instead of comparatively, and 'loaded new items'. Collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'spend a really good money' and 'remaining the budget'. These lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument, which places this performance firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'folks are always confronted', 'the people always looks for comaprative cheaper brands', 'the human body especially the women's body undergo', and 'can feasible by spending'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they rarely obscure the intended meaning entirely. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
