Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believes that purchasing few expensive clothes is better choice as compare to buying lots of cheaper clothes. However, I partly agree with this view, because not everyone can afford to buy expensive clothes, and buying variety of low budget clothes in same price gives lots of options for daily clothing.

One major advantage of buying lots of cheaper clothes is that it give wide range of choices for dressing. Everyone wants to arrange their ward-drobe with different types of clothes, and not all of them can afford it. So insted to buying one or two pair of expensive clothes, they are more likely to buy four to five pairs of cheap clothes. It gives them number of different choices on what to wear. Additionally, they can do some experiments in their clothing style as well.

However, on the other hand expensive cloths gives immense comfort. Quality of the material is top notch. There are certain amnout of people who perfers comfort and simplicity over style. People who works in higher position always buys expensive clothes as their budget allows them. Even though it won't give wide range of options but the cloths will last long. It won't get damaged easily.

In conclusion, buying high priced clothes offers comfort and long life of the clothes but options are limited. While low priced clothes gives wide range of choices but we have to compromise on the quality of the material. So, it is always adviced to shop as per the need.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that partly agrees with the prompt. The main ideas are relevant, such as discussing variety and budget constraints for cheaper clothes alongside comfort and durability for expensive clothes. However, some ideas are under-developed or touch upon points superficially without sufficient extension. For instance, the point about people who work in higher positions buying expensive clothes lacks further elaboration with specific examples. To reach the next level, the writer needs to fully develop all supporting points with deeper explanations and concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts in argument, such as 'One major advantage' and 'However, on the other hand'. However, the referencing and flow are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen in transitions like 'So insted to buying'. Paragraphing is utilized, though paragraph boundaries and internal logical progression could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing between sentences is entirely clear and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'immense comfort', 'top notch', and 'durability' (implied by long life). However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms throughout the text. Examples include 'believes' instead of 'believe', 'ward-drobe', 'insted', 'amnout', 'perfers', and 'adviced'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally detract from the reading experience, though they do not impede overall communication. A stronger lexical control and greater precision in spelling and collocations are required to progress further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct compound and subordinate clauses, such as 'Everyone wants to arrange their wardrobe with different types of clothes, and not all of them can afford it.' There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Many people believes', 'clothes gives'), article omissions ('better choice', 'wide range'), and preposition errors ('in same price'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication. To move up, the writer must produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate tighter control over grammatical patterns and articles.
