Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that buying fewer, expensive clothes is better than purchasing cheaper alternatives. The main arguments regarding longevity, time-saving, quality, and appearance are relevant. However, the development of ideas is uneven; some points, such as the comparison involving fashion designers and celebrities, are under-developed and lack clear logical connection to the central theme. Additionally, it must be noted that the response falls slightly short of the minimum length requirement, containing 245 words instead of the required 250 words. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all supporting arguments with more specific explanations and ensure the word count requirement is consistently met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas, such as durability, quality, and counter-arguments. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To ponder upon first view of issue in question' are awkward, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'This essay completely agree with issue in the concern'. To achieve a higher score, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother progression between sentences and paragraphs without relying on repetitive or forced transitional phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'undeniable', 'inhabitants', and 'luxurious'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors that affect precision. Examples include 'rahter' instead of 'rather', 'low rated attires' instead of 'low-quality clothing', 'more cheaper one' instead of 'cheaper alternatives', 'shoppings', 'buty' instead of 'beauty', and 'develope holes' instead of 'develops holes'. These inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from rising. To improve, the writer should focus on accurate word forms, spelling, and natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at structures like conditional and comparative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('A group of people think' instead of 'thinks', 'dresses looks' instead of 'look'), article misuse ('make person feel', 'to the person', 'in less price'), and prepositional errors. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency means the writing does not yet demonstrate the secure control characteristic of higher bands. To improve, the writer needs to pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules, particularly subject-verb agreement, article usage, and singular/plural consistency.
