Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, it is a highly debatable question whether to own a few high-priced clothes or a plenty of low-priced garments. While a segament of society believes to have imported clothes, I agree to the latter view.

First of all, owning a variety of cheaper clothes would allow people to wear according to their choices without limitating themselves for not having enogh clothes. A simple example could be, numerous individuals prefer to style themselves on different occasions, which creates their unique identity among guests. Apparently, it enhances their overall styling experience and developes a sense of dressing. In particular, bloggers and influencers tend not to repeat their attires; therefore, wasting expensive clothes by wearing them once only does not make any sense to them.

Moving forward, purchasing cheaper garments over time is an expenditure-friendly option for many. To elaborate, individuals do not have to pay at a time to own such a variety of clothes because they could simply build their wardrobe over time. For instance, especially ladies in Canada, shop for their apparel during sales time, three or four times a year, means they would pay for it in the instalments, allowing them to recover financially without having a burden or insecurity. Whereas, buying expensive clothes can sometime cause stress and pressure among people, particularly for middle-class category.

To encapsulate the main arguments, I honestly feel like having a lot of cheap attires is far better than owning limited expensive garments. Regardless of their premium quality and long durability, not everyone can easily afford those kind of products to wear them on a daily basis.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you favour buying many cheaper clothes, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—variety for different occasions and spreading the cost over time. The examples about influencers and shopping during sales help make the argument concrete. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the point about influencers is asserted rather than explained, and the Canadian shopping example does not fully show how buying during sales amounts to paying in instalments. The conclusion briefly acknowledges the quality and durability of expensive clothes, but does not weigh these advantages against your reasons. Develop that comparison and explain each example more precisely to make the argument more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Moving forward,” and “To encapsulate” make the progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical, and a few connections are unclear. For example, “Whereas” begins a fragment-like contrast after the sentence about shopping during sales, while “therefore” in the influencer example does not clearly connect the claim about not repeating outfits to the conclusion about wasting expensive clothes. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its supporting explanation explicit. This would make cohesion more flexible and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “high-priced,” “garments,” “wardrobe,” “durability,” and “expenditure-friendly,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “a plenty of low-priced garments,” “limitating themselves,” “developes a sense of dressing,” and “middle-class category.” Spelling slips such as “segament,” “enogh,” and “attires” also affect the impression of control. Aim for natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; for example, use “a wide range of affordable clothes” and “develop a sense of style.” This would make your vocabulary more fluent and appropriate to the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses with “while,” “because,” and “which,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. For instance, “a segment of society believes to have” needs a different verb pattern, and “it enhances … and developes” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “For instance, especially ladies in Canada … means” also has an unclear subject and an awkwardly connected main clause; “Whereas, buying expensive clothes…” is not a complete contrast structure in this context. Practise building complete sentences around examples and checking agreement, verb patterns, and clause connections while retaining your complex sentence attempts.
