Student answer (Band 7.0)

Many people believe the idea of buying a few branded clothes is better instead of lots of cheaper clothes. I agree with this statement, but with a limitation.

The major reason why it is a better decision to purchase expensive clothes is quality. Mostly, famous brands like, Zara, Tommy, and Gucci have international customers. To provide top notch customer satisfaction, they use superior quality of thread, colour and leather to manufacture their clothes. Due to these factors, these products provide more comfort and reliability to buyers.

Purchasing expensive clothes can help to improve the environment. Cheaper clothes offer less sustainability and longevity which means people may have to throw them often. However, expensive clothes stay wearable for a long period of time and help to minimize environmental waste produced from clothes. For example, jeans which the customers buy from Levi's may last long for 10 years. Contradictously, cheap jeans may be useful for 2 years and after that they have to discard them.

Even though choosing a small number of branded clothes over many cheaper clothes is better, money is a big factor. It is not convenient for everyone to buy expensive clothes due to their budget. Cheaper clothes not only provide them with a variety of clothes but also a stress free decision.

To conclude, I agree that it is a better choice to buy a few expensive clothes than more cheaper clothes. If money is not the issue, the benefits of branded attire like quality and sustainability are inevitable

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you agree, while recognising that affordability limits this choice. You address the main comparison with relevant reasons—quality and environmental durability—and support these with examples such as branded jeans lasting longer. This meets the task well. To make the argument more fully developed, explain the limitation more precisely: you note that cheaper clothes offer variety and a less stressful decision, but do not explore when this might outweigh the benefits of expensive items. Some claims, such as the broad link between famous brands and superior materials, would also be stronger with qualification or a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a concession, and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Even though,” and “To conclude” help signal relationships between points. The concession also gives the argument a useful balance. To strengthen cohesion further, connect the environmental paragraph more explicitly to the central comparison and avoid relying mainly on paragraph-opening transitions. For example, explain how durability makes a smaller wardrobe a practical alternative to frequent purchases. The contrast between expensive and cheap jeans is understandable, though the relationship between the two sentences could be expressed more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “sustainability,” “longevity,” “reliability,” and “environmental waste,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “top notch customer satisfaction.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “branded clothes” is repeated, “thread, colour and leather” does not clearly describe material quality, and “Contradictously” is not the appropriate form for this contrast. “Stress free decision” is also an awkward collocation. Greater precision and more natural collocations would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled, while retaining the clear meaning of your current vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including the concession beginning “Even though” and the relative clause “which the customers buy from Levi’s.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. In “brands like, Zara,” the comma is misplaced; “these products provide more comfort” would be better as “these products provide greater comfort”; and “they have to discard them” lacks a clear subject for the action. The final sentence also needs a full stop. Work on articles, comparative forms, and clear pronoun reference, while continuing to use subordinate clauses to show relationships between ideas.
