Student answer (Band 4.5)

Clothes are beneficial and express our personality. I think it's better to buy fewer expensive clothes instead of lots of cheaper ones. I am disagree with this statement. I will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs.

There are so many reason for this. First of all, whenever we buy costly clothes in our daily life as people waer casual clothes everyday. They are more comfortable as compared to costly clothes. Secondly, some people have not afford the expensive clothes as they have not enough money to spend on their clothes.

In addition, People wear the costly clothes on their specail occasion not in their daily life. So, they do not spend lot of money on clothes. They prefer to many cheaper clothes Which they can wear at any time. Moreover, they spend money buying comfortable clothes.

In conclusion, It is not good way to buy costly clothes rather than cheaper clothes. It is the way of wastage money buying expensive clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

Your position is stated, but it is contradictory: you first say you think buying fewer expensive clothes is better, then write, “I am disagree with this statement,” and the conclusion supports cheaper clothes. This makes your response to the question unclear. You give relevant reasons—everyday clothes should be comfortable, and some people cannot afford expensive items—but these points are only briefly stated and are not supported with specific examples or explanation. The discussion therefore addresses the task only partially, rather than developing a clear argument. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, so there is limited space to explain your reasons. State your position consistently, then develop each reason with an example or consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, supporting points and a conclusion, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “In addition” help identify the reasons. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the opening supports expensive clothes, while the body and conclusion argue for cheaper ones. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “First of all, whenever we buy costly clothes in our daily life as people…” The final paragraph repeats the preference for cheaper clothes without drawing together the reasons. Organise the body around one consistent position, give each paragraph a distinct main point, and use linking phrases to show how the explanation or example relates to that point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “personality,” “comfortable,” “expensive clothes,” and “special occasion,” and the reader can generally understand the subject. However, vocabulary is repetitive, especially the repeated use of “costly,” “clothes,” and “money,” and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “wastage money” and “prefer to many cheaper clothes” do not express the intended meaning naturally. Spelling errors such as “waer” and “specail” also reduce accuracy. To improve, use more precise clothing and spending vocabulary, such as “affordable,” “durable,” or “everyday wear,” and check spelling and common word combinations. This would make your limited range more effective and clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “They are more comfortable as compared to costly clothes” and “some people have not afford the expensive clothes as they have not enough money.” However, the longer structures are often faulty, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction recur. Examples include “I am disagree” instead of “I disagree,” “There are so many reason,” and “some people have not afford.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “People” and “Which” mid-sentence. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “although,” checking verb forms and singular/plural agreement.
