Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that buying high-end attire is a better approach rather than inexpensive ones. While It offers many advantages such as confidence and durabilty, I partially disagree with the given statement.

The main benefit of purchasing expensive outfits is durability, as one time investment can last for years. An individual can wear his good qualiy shirt for years without spending extra money on repair and replacement. This investement will not only save his time to buy new piece, but also his energy to travel to a shop. The more people wear durable outfits, the more they are likey to save time and energy travelling for buying new clothes.

Moreover, by wearing branded clothes people often feel more confident beacuse it gives a sense of fulfillment. For insatnce, in an interview, by apperaing in a branded clothing, canditate can feel more confident and get a job. In many elite class parties indviduals judge other from their clothes. This is why many consider that having a few expensive clothes are better than a lot of cheap outfits.

However, to deem low-budget clothes entirely useless is not a good approach. Malls and cloth shops sell their items at huge discounts. If people buy those discounted items, it would allow them to enjoy benefits of high-end products at low prices. Many smart buyers wait whole year for black friday sales to purchase expensive jackets at seventy percent discount.

In conclusion, I acknowledge that branded outfits are far better than cheaper clothes, but I also agree that cheaper clothes can replace the benefits of high-end clothes, if customers buy these at heavy discounts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially disagree, recognising the durability and confidence associated with expensive clothes while arguing that discounted purchases can offer similar value. The response addresses both sides and gives relevant examples, including interview clothing and Black Friday sales. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven. The durability point is explained through savings in time and replacement costs, whereas the confidence and interview example relies on a broad claim that branded clothing can help someone get a job. The final point about discounts is relevant but could explain more clearly how discounted items compare in quality with cheaper clothes. Develop these ideas with more precise reasoning and a consistent conclusion about which option you ultimately prefer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your position, two paragraphs explain advantages of expensive clothes, a contrasting paragraph considers discounts, and the conclusion restates your view. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow this structure. The main opportunity is to make the relationships between ideas more precise and avoid repeating the same point. For example, the durability paragraph repeats the idea of saving time and energy, while the final paragraph’s claim that cheaper clothes can “replace the benefits” of high-end clothes is not fully connected to the discount example. Clearer referencing and more purposeful transitions between claims and examples would make the progression feel more flexible and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “durability,” “investment,” “branded clothes,” “discounts,” and “high-end products.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are attempted. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations limit the accuracy of the vocabulary: examples include “durabilty,” “good qualiy shirt,” “inexpensive ones,” and “elite class parties.” Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “clothes,” “outfits,” and “expensive.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe the quality or lifespan of garments directly rather than relying on broad phrases such as “good quality shirt.” This would make your vocabulary more controlled and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence (“If people buy those discounted items, it would allow them…”) and a comparative structure (“The more people wear durable outfits…”). Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “one time investment can last for years,” the article is missing; “buy new piece” also needs an article. There are agreement and sentence-pattern issues in “having a few expensive clothes are better” and “by appearing in a branded clothing, candidate can feel…”. The conditional sentence also shifts from “If people buy” to “it would allow,” where “will allow” would be more consistent. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and conditional forms while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
