Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people supports the idea of purchasing certain costly attires, instead of inexpensive clothes in a large number. However, I completely disagree with view, as I believe that it is better to have a variety of affordable clothes rather than expensive ones.

To begin with, the trend of purchasing new branded outfits is not possible for everyone. This is because some people's income is not enough for buying an expensive attire. If they spend a huge part of their salary just to purchase a branded piece of clothes, their monthly budget might be disturbed or they have to sacrifice their other significant needs. For example, in India the basic income of people is only ten thousand per month, but the price of a costly cloth starts from five to six thousand, so it is not possible for them to spend money on such attires. Otherwise, they would left with very less amount of money for their other requirements. Thus it is better for them to purchase cheap clothes.

Furthermore, If people choose affordable cothes over costly ones, they can collect a wide variety of outfits. The primary rationale is that due to the easiest affordability of cheap outfits people can purchase different collections for distinct ocassions. To illustrate, individuals usually perefer not to wear same clothes for various events such as they require formal suits, casual outfits, and party wears. While by having a few high-priced clothes, people would feel they are not only dearthing of enough attires, but they also find it boring to wear same clothes repeatedly.

To conclude, although some individuals may find it a good idea to buy limited expensive clothes, in my opinion it is far more better to have a huge range of inexpensive clothes as it would not affect the monthly budget of low-waged individuals and can also provide several options to wear.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely disagree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the comparison by giving two relevant reasons: expensive clothes can strain a limited budget, while cheaper clothes allow people to choose outfits for different occasions. The India example adds support to the first point, and the references to formal, casual and party clothing illustrate the second. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended and supported. To strengthen it further, develop the second argument more fully: explain more precisely why variety matters, or give a specific example of how buying affordable clothes benefits someone. Avoid broad claims such as “the basic income of people” without clarifying whose income you mean.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. Examples are generally placed alongside the points they support. Some linking is less smooth within sentences, however. The sentence beginning “While by having a few high-priced clothes” is an incomplete contrast, and the connection between the two consequences that follow is difficult to track. The repeated use of explicit transitions also makes parts of the essay feel formulaic. Use a complete contrast structure and clearer references between ideas to make cohesion more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “monthly budget,” “branded outfits,” “formal suits,” and “distinct occasions.” These choices help communicate the main points, and you attempt less common expressions such as “significant needs.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “a piece of clothes,” “easiest affordability,” and “dearthing of enough attires.” There are also spelling errors such as “cothes,” “ocassions,” and “perefer,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “a garment” or “an item of clothing” rather than “a piece of clothes.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If they spend a huge part of their salary…” and a reason clause introduced by “This is because.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Some people supports” has subject–verb disagreement, “they would left” uses the wrong verb form, and “I completely disagree with view” is missing an article. The sentence beginning “While by having…” is also not a complete sentence, and “If” is unnecessarily capitalised after “Furthermore,”. Review agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control without requiring more complicated ideas.
