Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the contemporary world, the trend of purchasing clothes are increasing significantly. It is offten believed that it is good decision to buy the few expensive clothes instead of spending alot of money on cheaper clothes. I do not agree with this statement and reasons to explain this statement are discussed below with relavent example.

Spending alot of money on few clothing items is not a bad idea because these types of cloth last for many years due to its good quality and people do not have to worry to go to the market after every few months. Individuals choose this idea because they have very hectic schedule and they do not have time to go to the market. Apart from this, some people buy expensive clothes because they think appearance matters alot when they meet other individuals. Expensive clothes make them fell more confident and comforable in any special occassions such as meetings, parties.

People spend money on the cheaper clothes because they believe to follow the fashion instead of believing in quality. If they spend alot of money on expensive clothes then they would not be able to follow the trend. There are numerous people who do not repeat the clothes and change it according to the market. For example: It is often noticed that nowadays most of the people buy alot of cheaper clothes in comparison to spending money on branded clothes.

To conclude, cheaper clothes are puchased by people who follow the trend and they do not repeat the same clothes on any ocassion in contrast to those who believe in quality. There are some people who think about the quality and they belive it gives them confident when they attend any meetings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is stated clearly in the introduction (“I do not agree”), and the response discusses both expensive and cheaper clothing. However, the argument does not consistently explain why you disagree with the claim: the first body paragraph mainly gives reasons people choose expensive clothes, while the second describes why others buy cheaper items. The conclusion also summarises these contrasting groups rather than firmly restating your own view. Examples such as following fashion and not repeating clothes are relevant, but they are general and need fuller explanation or a specific illustration. To strengthen the response, make each main point support your disagreement and explain the consequences—for example, how buying cheaper clothes allows people to update their wardrobes within a limited budget.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas are grouped broadly by clothing choice. Basic links such as “Apart from this,” “For example” and “To conclude” help signal movement between points. However, progression is limited because the first body paragraph supports the advantages of expensive clothes, which conflicts with the stated disagreement, and the conclusion repeats the comparison without resolving it. Some connections are also unclear, particularly “because they believe to follow the fashion instead of believing in quality.” Build a clearer sequence by presenting two reasons for your position, then supporting each with explanation and an example. Use referencing and linking phrases to show how each sentence develops the same central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “quality,” “follow the fashion,” “branded clothes” and “special occasions.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “hectic schedule” and “appearance matters.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or repetitive, including “spending alot of money,” “buy alot of cheaper clothes” and “believe to follow the fashion.” Spelling errors such as “offten,” “relavent,” “comforable” and “puchased” are noticeable and reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated words such as “clothes” and “people”; careful proofreading will also help ensure that your intended meaning is immediately clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause (“because these types of cloth last for many years”) and a conditional sentence (“If they spend… then they would not be able…”). Meaning is generally understandable, but errors remain in sentence structure and grammatical forms. For example, “the trend … are increasing” has subject–verb disagreement, and “it is good decision” is missing an article. In “people do not have to worry to go to the market,” the verb pattern is not controlled, while “these types of cloth … due to its good quality” has inconsistent number and reference. The conditional also shifts awkwardly between “If they spend” and “would not be able.” Practise agreement, articles, verb patterns and consistent conditional forms, then proofread each sentence.
