Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often calimed that purchasing a few expensive clothes is better than having lots of cheaper clothes. Although cheaper clothes more affordable, I believe that the expensive clothes better because its offer higher quality and value.

One major reason for my position is that the well-known clothes brands such as Zara, DeFacto, and Gucci, offer the highest clothes quality. This mainly because these brands using natural materials in their products. For example, many Zara factories use only natural wool and cotton in their products and this is extremely important for many customers. Consequently, these high quality products could stay for longer periods because it is made from natural materials. As a result, this can have a significant positive impact on people who care about wearing high quality clothes.

Another important reason for my position is that these clothes can give a higher value. By waring clothes from well-known brand, people can look more professional or more stylish. For instance, top brands usually design modren styles, alowing individuals to look more elegant. This is crucial for many people for different reasons such someone have an important interview or someone have date. Admittedly, some people argue that cheaper brands can also offer modern designs; however, cheaper brands usually focus on the prices rather than the quality. As a result, this can have a major impact on people social life.

In conclusion, despite cheaper clothes are affordable, I strongly believe purchasing fewer expensive clothes is better because it gives a higher value and a better quality. Therefore, people should be avoided wasting money on cheaper clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you support buying fewer, more expensive clothes, mainly because of quality and perceived value. Both body paragraphs give relevant reasons and examples, including natural materials, longer-lasting garments, and looking professional for an interview. This addresses the task and the ideas are extended with explanation. However, some support is over-generalised: the claim that named brands use only natural wool and cotton is presented as fact without qualification, and the point about social life is asserted rather than clearly explained. To strengthen the response, use more precise, credible examples and develop how durability or appearance leads to practical benefits, while acknowledging that price does not always guarantee quality.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops a separate reason, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression within the paragraphs is generally logical, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “Consequently,” and “Admittedly” help show relationships between ideas. This makes the argument easy to follow. At times, however, the links feel repetitive or the references are vague. For instance, “this can have a major impact on people social life” does not specify the impact, while “these clothes” and “this” could refer to several preceding ideas. Use more precise referencing and vary transitions, ensuring each concluding sentence clearly follows from the evidence in its paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “natural materials,” “professional,” “stylish,” “elegant,” and “significant positive impact.” These choices communicate your main ideas, and attempts at more specific language such as “well-known brands” and “modern styles” are appropriate. Some word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “higher value” is unclear in context, “waring” and “modren” are misspelled, and “the highest clothes quality” is not a natural phrase. “People social life” also needs a more accurate expression. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for clothing and value, and proofread spelling and word forms. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish durability, quality, price, and status.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession beginning “Although” and a contrast introduced by “Admittedly.” These help you express reasons and qualification, and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors occur across the response. The opening concession is incomplete (“Although cheaper clothes more affordable”), and “the expensive clothes better because its offer” has missing verb forms and faulty agreement. Other examples include “these brands using,” “it is made,” and “people should be avoided wasting,” where verb forms or sentence patterns are not controlled. Articles and agreement also need attention in “someone have an important interview.” Practise complete clause structures, subject–verb agreement, and verb patterns, then check each sentence for a finite verb and a clear subject.
