Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's consumer-driven world, clothes have become a matter of considerable public interest. It is often argued that rather than buying bulk cheaper clothes, buy just a few expensive ones. In my opinion, this is not a welcome suggestion, and its implementation may lead to several negative consequences.
One of the main seasons why a hold this view is that not only cheaper clothes are more affordable but also they can buy more items
with a limited budget. This is primarily because they need to save money for rudimentary expenses , such as food, rent, and education.
As a result, they will not have any unnecessary burden on their finances after buying expensive clothes. For instance, a student can buy several affordable outfits instead of spending their entire clothing budget on one expensive jacket.
Another important reason is that buying cheaper clothes allows people to have a wider range of outfits. Moreover, they can wear different styles for work, college and social occasions. In other words, having more options helps people express their personality. For example, a person with several affordable outfits can dress differently for various occasions without spending too much money.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree that purchasing a few expensive clothes is preferable to buying numerous cheaper items. This is because affordable clothing provides greater variety and enables individuals to maintain better control over their spending.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“this is not a welcome suggestion”—and is maintained in the conclusion. You address the question with two relevant reasons: cheaper clothes are more affordable, and they provide a wider choice of outfits. The student-budget example supports the first point, while the discussion of dressing for different occasions supports the second. However, some ideas are less fully developed: for instance, you could explain more specifically how buying expensive clothes affects people with limited incomes, or acknowledge a possible benefit of expensive clothing before responding to it. The response also contains 228 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum. Develop your reasons with further explanation or a more detailed example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking phrases such as “As a result,” “Moreover,” and “For instance” help show relationships between ideas, and the progression is easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. To improve further, avoid relying on a similar pattern of claim, explanation, and example in both body paragraphs; develop links between points more naturally. There is also a spacing issue after the first full stop (“interest. It”), and the line break within the first body paragraph interrupts the presentation. Careful proofreading and more varied transitions would make the flow smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “consumer-driven world,” “rudimentary expenses,” “wider range of outfits,” and “express their personality.” These choices show an attempt to use less common language, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “seasons” appears where “reasons” is intended, and “buying bulk cheaper clothes” is not a natural expression. “Unnecessary burden on their finances” is understandable but could be expressed more precisely. The repeated use of “cheaper,” “clothes,” and “buy” also limits variety. Aim for accurate collocations and use alternatives such as “affordable garments” or “low-cost clothing” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “This is primarily because they need to save money…” and “Although” is not needed to express your main points, but you do use structures such as “instead of spending…” accurately. Most sentences communicate your meaning, though some grammatical errors remain. In “not only cheaper clothes are more affordable but also they can buy more items,” the paired construction is not formed correctly; write, for example, “not only are cheaper clothes more affordable, but people can also buy more items.” The phrase “why a hold this view” also needs a subject and correct verb form: “why I hold this view.” Check sentence boundaries and spacing, including the missing space after “interest.” More consistent control of these patterns would strengthen accuracy.
