Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that, it is better to purchase just a few top-quality expensive clothes. While rest believes that buying a lot of cheaper clothes is better. In my opinion, one should buy just a few outfits but they should be of high-quality and expensive.

Expensive clothes use high-quality fabrics that give them a classy and neat look. Because of their outstanding raw material and experienced stitching their prices are at the higher end. Most of the clothing brands for example, Versace, Nike and Adidas have earned their names by offering reliable and class products to their customers, and they charge a high price for their products. The products of these brands are value to money. They will help you to out-shine, highlighting you from others.

A person's outfit reflects his personality well before his introduction. When we go out in a gathering people will judge us by the way we look and what we are wearing. For example, most business tycoons use this technique to look different from the public. They wear branded outfits and accessories and people admire them for their clothing choice. Besides wearing an outfit that suits us will boost our confidence. It will help us to confidently attend the meetings, convey our massage and to convince a client.

In conclusion, having less but top-notch expensive cloths is better than buying many low-quality cheaper ones. Expensive clothes are mostly reliable with longer life. Spending once on a good item is better than wasting money multiple times on cheaper low-quality items.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support buying a few high-quality, expensive clothes, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including durability, appearance and confidence, and the examples of branded clothing and business meetings help illustrate your argument. This addresses the task and provides support for your main ideas. However, some claims are broad—for example, that people judge us by our clothes and that business tycoons use branded outfits to stand out—and would be more convincing with explanation or a specific personal or real-world example. The comparison with cheaper clothing is also mainly confined to the conclusion; developing its disadvantages alongside the benefits of quality would make the response more balanced and fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from fabric quality and brand reputation to social impressions and confidence is easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “For example,” “Besides,” and “In conclusion,” which help signal relationships between ideas. To strengthen cohesion, make some links more precise and avoid abrupt or unclear phrasing. For instance, “They will help you to out-shine, highlighting you from others” does not clearly connect the product’s quality to the claimed effect. The opening contrast beginning “While rest believes” is also incomplete as a sentence. More explicit transitions between the two main reasons, and clearer references to what “they” denotes, would make the flow smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “high-quality fabrics,” “reliable,” “reflects his personality,” “boost our confidence,” and “top-notch.” These choices communicate your main points, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “class and reliable products,” “value to money,” “out-shine,” and “highlighting you from others.” There are also spelling or word-form slips, including “massage” where the context requires “message,” and “cloths” for “clothes.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Focus on learning common collocations and checking spelling and word forms, especially in phrases used to support your central argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “fabrics that give them a classy and neat look” and a conditional structure in “When we go out in a gathering people will judge us.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the paragraphing gives you room to develop different points. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. The opening “While rest believes…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and the comma after “argue that” is unnecessary. In “Because of their outstanding raw material and experienced stitching their prices are at the higher end,” the introductory phrase needs clearer punctuation and the sentence structure is awkward. Review sentence boundaries, articles and agreement, and aim to produce more consistently accurate complex sentences.
