Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is good to buy few expensive clothes, instead of lots of cheaper clothes. I am disagree with this notion.

There are two reasons why people should buy lots of cheaper clothes. The first reason is that people get variety of clothes, as buying cheaper clothes give advantage to people to choose different clothes, which helps them to increase their clothes collection. This also give people option to wear different clothes on different ocassions and they get less repetition in clothes. Moreover, people should also follow the fashion trend while spending less money. For example, there are number of online shopping sites namely, Temu, and Shein offer variety of clothes and are very cheap.

The second reason is that people can save money, because spending less money on clothes assists them to save their money, they can utilize this savings on some other important sectors.Like food, grocieries, and rents. It is good way to save money as they get their need of clothes as well saved money. For example, people can buy 2-3 cheap jackets instead of spending same money to buy an expensive jacket. Hence, it is very benificial for people and good way to save their money.

In conclusion, although there are some reasons to buy expensive clothes, I believe that buying cheaper clothes have more benifits due to reasons I mentioned above and it is very affordable also helps to save mo

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with buying a few expensive items and support cheaper clothing. You give two relevant reasons—greater choice and saving money—and illustrate them with online shops and the jacket comparison. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the ideas are brief and mostly asserted rather than developed; for instance, the fashion-trend point is not explained beyond naming shopping sites. The conclusion also ends mid-sentence, so the final claim is incomplete. In addition, the response is 16 words below the required minimum. To strengthen the answer, explain the consequences of each reason in more detail and complete the conclusion with a clear summary of your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “The first reason,” “The second reason,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the main points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “people,” “clothes,” and “save money.” Some links between ideas are unclear: the sentence beginning “Like food, groceries, and rents” is a fragment, and the example about jackets is not smoothly connected to the preceding explanation. The conclusion is also cut off, weakening the ending. Use a wider range of linking and referencing, connect examples explicitly to the point they support, and ensure each paragraph develops a complete line of thought.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including “variety,” “fashion trend,” “online shopping sites,” and “important sectors.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “people,” “clothes,” and “save money.” Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “increase their clothes collection,” “less repetition in clothes,” and “spending less money assists them to save their money.” Spelling errors—including “ocassions,” “grocieries,” “benificial,” and “benifits”—also make the writing less controlled. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe “a wider wardrobe” and say that affordable clothing “leaves more money for essential expenses.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main argument is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. Examples include “I am disagree” instead of “I disagree,” “buying cheaper clothes give” instead of “gives,” and “This also give” instead of “gives.” The sentence “Like food, groceries, and rents” is incomplete, while “people can utilize this savings” has a number-agreement problem. There are also punctuation issues, such as the missing space after “sectors.” and the comma in “Temu, and Shein.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence construction, then proofread punctuation and vary your sentence patterns.
