Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope, you are doing well. I am writing this letter regards my dissatisfaction of the attires that I bought from you last week.
I purchased 2 kurta's from your website. Those are cream and steel grey in colour with the golden embroidery on them. These also have astonishing stones which enhances their look.
These are completely different in look than which i was expecting. In the website, it's fabric seems shiny and soft but in real, it is slight dull and rigid. In addition, it won't fit proper on my body shape. It fits very tight on me, while it appears loose fit on the model in your online store.
I want to replace them urgently because I am invited to the wedding of my best friend, next week. I am sending my preferences about the designs and fabric along with my body measurement. Hope you will prepare my order before this week.
Thanks and regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the purchase, described the quality issues with the fabric and fit, and explained the urgency regarding the upcoming wedding. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that all details are fully developed; for example, you could have included an order number or specific date to make the request more professional. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left in no doubt about what you require from the company.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'while', though the flow could be improved with a wider variety of linking words. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, ensure that referencing is precise; for instance, 'Those are cream' is slightly awkward, and 'which i was expecting' could be better connected to the previous sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'dissatisfaction', 'embroidery', and 'measurements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'regards my dissatisfaction of' (should be 'regarding my dissatisfaction with') and 'attires' (which is usually uncountable or used differently). The phrase 'slight dull' should be 'slightly dull'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I hope, you are doing well' (unnecessary comma), '2 kurta's' (incorrect pluralization; should be 'kurtas'), and 'it won't fit proper' (should be 'properly'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and verb agreement, such as 'In the website, it's fabric seems'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of adverbs versus adjectives.
