Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Ramneet Kaur. I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction about the purchase I have made on your website.
I had placed an order on 21st of July, 2026. My order number was R[redacted phone]. The payment was done by my credit card ending with digits 9876. I ordered a dress for my farewell party which is going to held next week. My package got delivered yesterday and I was so disappointed after receiving it. There are few stains on my dress which moreover the colour I ordered was red and the one I got is pink.
I would ask you to replace my dress at your earliest convenient as I need it by next week. Please let me know if you are out of stock for the colour I want and grant me a full refund for my payment.
Hope you will not repeat this mistake again and double check the order before it is shipped.
Yours sincerly,
Ramneet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided the order details, clearly described the issues with the dress (stains and incorrect color), and explained the urgency regarding your farewell party. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To improve, you could expand slightly on the impact of the error to further justify the urgency, but overall, the task requirements are fully met with a clear purpose and consistent tone throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'moreover' and 'as', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the connection between the stain and the color error could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the letter is easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'dissatisfaction', 'convenient', and 'refund' correctly. There are some minor word choice issues, such as 'payment was done' (should be 'made') and 'out of stock for the colour' (should be 'in the colour'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision of more advanced lexical choices. Focusing on collocations and more formal phrasing would help elevate your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'going to held' (should be 'going to be held'), 'There are few stains' (should be 'There are a few stains'), and 'Yours sincerly' (spelling error). Additionally, 'at your earliest convenient' should be 'at your earliest convenience'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and ensure consistent control over verb tenses and word forms.
