Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to inform you that i have buy some cloths through online and i am dissatisfied with my buying.
I bought three pairs of baggy jeans. One which is in black colour other is in light blue and the third one is dark blue. The size of the jeans are 28 inch for all the three jeans which looks nice on me.
The issue which i am facing that i have order the baggy jeans but the jeans which are arrive at my home are super baggy jeans. So, when i try to wear it the jeans is to loose and looks uncomfortable on me and also the length is more then the normal jeans.
I would request you to replace this jeans as soon as possible because next week i am hosting a birthday party in which i would like to wear the jeans which i have order early which can fit with my combination of outfit.
looking forward to see your response,
your faithfully,
DK

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: providing purchase details, describing the issue, and explaining the need for an urgent replacement. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the jeans are unsuitable could be more precise, and the urgency is explained but lacks a strong sense of professional expectation. To improve, ensure that the purpose of the letter is clearly stated in the opening and that the request for action is more direct and formal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the narrative. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the description of the jeans and the problem is abrupt. There is a reliance on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'so'. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'due to the fact that') to improve the flow between sentences and ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'i have buy' instead of 'I have bought', 'cloths' instead of 'clothes', and 'to loose' instead of 'too loose'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to retail and clothing, and ensure you are using the correct word forms (nouns vs. verbs) in your sentences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'The issue which i am facing that i have order' and 'the jeans which are arrive'. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are frequent issues throughout the text. To improve, practice using a wider range of complex structures, such as relative clauses and conditional sentences, while paying closer attention to verb tenses and basic subject-verb agreement rules to reduce the frequency of errors.
