Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Inform you about unsatisfied with your clothing collections, which I bought recently through your online platform.
Basically, I am doing online shopping from your company's website, which is www.myntra.com and almost every time I prefer the t-shirt and pants from your company as these products are good in quality and get perfect fit to my size but recently, I bought 3 pair of t-shirts, which were on sale last week and I was not satisfied with the quality and size.
All three t-shirts are different colors but after my one wash in machine their all three t-shirts became white means all colors are gone and getting smaller in size and I am not able to wear it again.
I wish you could replace these all 3 pieces of t-shirt with new and good quality one and I hope you can parcel those within a week as I have a family function in next week and I genuinely wanted to wear your brand's cloths because it perfectly suite on my body.
My humble request you to take an urgent action on my issue and give me the better option to finish my requirement.
Sincerely,
Smit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: details of the purchase, the specific problem with the clothing, and the urgent need for a replacement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of the problem is clear, but the request for a replacement could be more professionally articulated. The letter successfully conveys the purpose, and the reader is left in no doubt about the situation. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing are more standard for formal correspondence, as the current opening is grammatically incomplete.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the narrative. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Basically' and 'means all colors are gone' disrupt the flow and formal tone. The transition between the description of the purchase and the problem is clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'as a result') rather than relying on simple sentence connectors. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved to create a smoother reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate the issue clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'online platform' and 'quality'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'get perfect fit to my size' instead of 'fit me perfectly' and 'parcel those' instead of 'ship' or 'dispatch'. The use of 'cloths' instead of 'clothes' is a recurring error. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and article usage (e.g., 'Inform you about unsatisfied', 'after my one wash in machine', 'perfectly suite on my body'). Some sentences are run-on or lack necessary subjects and auxiliary verbs. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles in formal writing.
