Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter, to bring to your notice my dissatisfaction with an apparel which I purchased from your website three days ago. I had ordered a blue winter jacket from your ongoing winter sale, my order id is 22023 and my reference code is F230.
The jacket arrived before the expected delivery date which was impressive but to my surprise the colour was not what I had ordered for. Additionaly, the size which I recieved was an extra large while the ordered was placed for a medium. I could have still adjusted with the colour of the jacket but not the size as it looks bulky on me.
Furthermore, my university starts in the next 3 days and I desperatly need a winter jacket as I will be commuting everyday in harsh weather. It would be appreciated if you could provide me with an express replacement for my order.
Hoping to get a positive feedback from your end.
Thank you,
Angad Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
You successfully covered all parts of the prompt in a clear and effective manner. You provided the necessary details of the purchase by stating that you bought a blue winter jacket from the website three days ago and included the order ID and reference code. You also clearly described the problem, noting that the item arrived in the wrong color and incorrect size (extra large instead of medium). Furthermore, you explained why you need a replacement urgently, citing that your university starts in three days and you need it for daily commuting in harsh weather. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter, and all bullet points from the instructions are fully addressed and supported with relevant details, demonstrating a strong understanding of General Training Task 1 requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your letter exhibits clear logical organization and progression throughout. Ideas are logically sequenced into appropriate paragraphs, starting with the purchase details, moving on to the specific problems with the product, and concluding with the urgency and a polite closing. You make good use of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Additionaly' to connect your ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of your message. While there is a minor spelling slip in 'Additionaly', the overall flow and structure of the letter guide the reader effortlessly from start to finish, reflecting a well-managed layout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrated a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision appropriate for a formal complaint. You successfully used less common items and industry-appropriate terms such as 'apparel', 'express replacement', and 'reference code'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'Additionaly' and 'desperatly', but these do not impede communication. Word choice is generally natural, as seen in phrases like 'bring to your notice my dissatisfaction' and 'harsh weather'. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more sophisticated phrasing or idiomatic expressions, but your current lexical control is fully adequate to convey your message clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You displayed a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over your grammatical structures. Sentences such as 'The jacket arrived before the expected delivery date which was impressive...' and 'It would be appreciated if you could provide me with an express replacement...' show an ability to handle multi-clause sentences. However, there are a few punctuation and grammatical slips, such as the unnecessary comma in 'I am writing this letter, to bring to your notice', missing hyphens or articles in places, and spelling inaccuracies. Despite these errors, the majority of your sentences are clear, and the punctuation and grammar do not impede communication, ensuring the letter reads smoothly overall.
