Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provide details of your purchase, mentioning that you bought tops, pants, and two dresses from the shop 'Nick's clothes'. You describe the problem clearly, explaining that the dresses are too large in both length and width. Finally, you explain why you need a replacement urgently, stating that you have a party to attend on Monday and today is Saturday. However, the prompt specifies that you bought the clothing online, whereas you state in your letter that you came into the shop personally. This slight contradiction impacts how fully the context of the task is handled, keeping your achievement at a solid level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter is organised into clear paragraphs that separate the different points of your message, such as the introduction of the problem, the details of the visit, the description of the sizing issue, and the urgency of the replacement. However, the overall logical progression is somewhat disrupted by abrupt sentence transitions and fragmented ideas. For instance, phrases like 'When I return to my home. I want to show...' break the flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are occasionally used, such as 'In addition' and 'Therefore', but referencing and linking could be smoother to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to shopping and clothing sizes, such as 'replacement', 'urgently', 'length', and 'width'. You also attempt some less common expressions like 'cooperative' and 'consideration'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as saying 'inform i bought some outfits and are not satisfied with your purchase' instead of 'inform you that I am not satisfied', and 'came in your shop' instead of 'visited your shop'. These inaccuracies mean your lexical range remains at a functional level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I also spent on two dresses which i want to wear on a party that will be on Monday 28th.' However, your text contains frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including sentence fragments ('Because I did not had a time'), incorrect verb tenses ('When I return to my home'), and missing prepositions ('wear on a party'). Additionally, there are minor agreement and capitalization issues, such as lowercase 'i' and double spaces. While communication is not severely impeded, these errors prevent the grammar score from rising higher.
