Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this to request a replacment for my order number 24685 a 3 piece black long frock suit which I have ordered on 16th September 2026 from your website.

I have been trusting your website from last 5 years and have placed the order this time too. I recently purchased a 3 piece black long suit in size 42, wh9ich has a dupatta, kurta and pants, but the problem I faced is the size I recieved was 38 and not only this the colour is not exactly what has been given in the website, also the width of dress is less incomparsion to what has been displayed.

I thought of placing this order as there are several events lined up in my office for which I have to follow the black ethenical theme and this is the reaosn I placed the order also it promised delivery within 2 days which was matching my deadline. Since the dress was deliveried in the time given but did not meet my expectation.

So I kindly request you to arrange a quick replacement of my order number 24685 as I will be needing it in the next week for an event.

Yours sincerely,

Mona

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You successfully address all parts of the task, meeting the higher requirements by clearly covering the details of the purchase, describing the specific problems regarding size and colour, and explaining the urgent need for a replacement. Your purpose in writing is immediately clear, and a polite, consistent tone is maintained throughout. All bullet points are fully addressed, and ideas are extended and supported well, such as mentioning the office events requiring a black ethnic theme. To reach the highest bands, you could ensure that every minor detail of the description is fully integrated with even greater precision, though your overall coverage is solid, detailed, and directly answers every aspect of the prompt requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter shows a clear overall arrangement and logical progression, as you move smoothly from stating the order details to outlining the problems and finally requesting a replacement. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your opening, body explanations, and concluding request. You successfully demonstrate some features of the next higher band through logical sequencing, yet cohesion is occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as with run-on sentences in the second paragraph ('wh9ich has a dupatta... also the width'). To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that cohesive devices and referencing within sentences are managed more flexibly and precisely, avoiding overly long sentences and improving transitions between separate ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'three-piece black long frock suit' and 'ethenical theme'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'replacment', 'wh9ich', 'recieved', 'incomparsion', and 'ethenical', alongside minor collocation slips like 'trusting your website from last 5 years'. These errors do not impede communication, placing you squarely in this band, but they prevent you from achieving a higher score. To improve, you need to expand your precision in word choice, enhance your control over word forms and spelling, and demonstrate more consistent accuracy when using less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and reason clauses, such as 'which has a dupatta' and 'as there are several events lined up'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including tense and preposition choices like 'have ordered' instead of 'ordered', 'from last 5 years' instead of 'for the last 5 years', and 'deliveried' instead of 'delivered'. However, these errors are relatively minor and rarely impede communication. To move up to the next band, you need to produce more frequent error-free sentences, improve your control over articles and prepositions, and refine your punctuation to avoid run-on sentence structures.
