Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter. My name is Jasmeen Kaur, I have recently purchased a pair of joggers online from your website. It is of small size in navy-blue colour. It has a two zipper pockets. I really like the sporty clothes of your brand as they are durable and made from high quality materials.
However, they delivered a wrong size to me as It is supposed to be of medium size. Moreover, I selected the medium size on the website, when I placed the order. Therefore, it is a mistake occured from your side.
I kindly request you to replace the product with the right size as I urgently need this joggers for the occasion of international yoga day which is going to be held on 15 October 2026. I hope you will urgently address my issue and I would appreciate if you could replace the item before the event.
I look forward to your prompt response!
Your's sincerely,
Jasmeen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points: it identifies the purchase as navy-blue joggers, explains that the delivered item is small although medium was selected, and requests a replacement before the stated event. The reason for urgency is clear and specific, and the polite request maintains an appropriate tone for a company. Details such as the order date or a reference number could make the purchase easier to identify, while the occasion could be explained a little more fully to strengthen the urgency. Overall, the purpose is clear and the key information is relevant and supported; adding a little more practical detail would make the request more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear sequence: purchase details, the sizing problem, then the requested remedy and deadline. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “Therefore” help show the relationship between points. The closing is also appropriate. At times, though, the connectors make the letter sound slightly formulaic, and “Moreover” repeats information about the selected size rather than introducing a distinct point. The opening purchase details could be grouped more smoothly, and the final request could be separated from the explanation of the event. More natural transitions and clearer referencing would make the flow even more effortless.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for a complaint letter and includes useful task-specific terms such as “replace,” “wrong size,” “durable,” and “high quality materials.” The writer also uses a polite register through phrases such as “I kindly request” and “I look forward to your prompt response.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “a mistake occured from your side” is not idiomatic, and “for the occasion of international yoga day” is unnecessarily cumbersome. “Sporty clothes” is also less precise than a term such as “sportswear.” These choices do not prevent understanding, but more natural collocations and precise phrasing would improve control and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause “as they are durable” and the time clause “which is going to be held on 15 October 2026.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the sequence of events is understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “It has a two zipper pockets” has an article and plural agreement problem, while “this joggers” does not agree in number. The sentence beginning “My name is Jasmeen Kaur, I have recently purchased…” joins two independent clauses with a comma, and “It is of small size” is awkwardly formed. Improving agreement, sentence boundaries, and article use would help the writer produce more consistently accurate sentences.
