Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with your product. Last week I purchased a dress on your website. But, when I opened the package I noticed that you deliverd to me a wrong color dress. Hence, I want to request an urgent repalcement because the product were wrong.

On 10 October, I ordered a black color dress for a total of 85$ including delivery charges. Although, the package was delivered to me on time, I was disappointed when I opened it. I ordered black color one but the package included in a red color dress.

My birthday party will come in a next week and I am so distressed about that. I do not have enough time to go another shopping or looking more websites because I am on a very busy schedule in these days. So, I would be appreciate if you could deliver me to correct item as soon as posible. I read your product return guidlines and I will arrange the package to return your adress according to your exchange policies.

I hope you resolve this matter as a genuine seller and I look foward to hearing from you soon.

Yours Faithfully,

Ann

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requirements clearly: you identify the purchase as a dress ordered on 10 October for $85, explain that a red dress arrived instead of the black one, and request a prompt replacement because your birthday party is next week. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the return-policy detail supports your request. To make the response stronger, develop the urgency a little more specifically—for example, state the latest date by which the replacement must arrive. The opening and closing are appropriate for a formal complaint, although the request could be phrased more directly and professionally.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the complaint, gives the order details, explains the urgency, and ends with a request and closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages. Some links between ideas are less smooth or mechanical, however. For instance, “But” and “Hence” are used to connect short statements where a more natural transition would improve flow, and “Although” introduces a contrast that is not completed clearly. The repeated explanation that the dress was the wrong colour also slightly interrupts progression. Use a wider range of natural links and ensure each sentence connects clearly to the one before it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its context, including “dissatisfaction,” “disappointed,” “exchange policies,” and “resolve this matter.” However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision and naturalness. Phrases such as “black color one,” “go another shopping,” and “deliver me to correct item” are not idiomatic, while “repalcement,” “guidlines,” and “posible” are misspelled. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they make the letter less polished. Aim for accurate customer-service phrases and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Although the package was delivered to me on time…” and “I would be appreciate if…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the product were wrong” should use a singular verb, and “I would be appreciate” needs a different verb pattern, such as “I would appreciate it if…”. The sentence beginning “Although” is also not formed as a complete contrast. Review these patterns and check article use and sentence boundaries; greater accuracy in these areas would make your request clearer and more professional.
