Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

I am writing to complain about a jacket that I bought from your website www.mnytra.com 3 days ago.

I have been doing shopping from your online plateform from the last three years but fortunately, I never receieved any wrong or damaged product. However, recently I ordered a formal jacket from your website for my important interview but unfortunately, the order which I receieved is wrong. In additon, actually I ordered the small size however, I got large size in jacket which is quite loose to me.

This problem will seriously affect my interview because I am unable to enter the office because formal dress code is compulsory for this interview. I have also spent my productive time to select or order this jacket while i was preparing my interview. As a result, I am becoming concerned that this problem could affect my interview.

I would therefore appreciate it if you could replace my order as soon as possible. If the problem cannot be fixed promptly, I would prefer to receive repalcement jacket of the small size or a full refund. I would be grateful if your

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points: you identify the purchase as a jacket ordered from the website, explain that you requested a small but received a large, and describe the urgency by linking the jacket to an upcoming interview and its formal dress code. The requested remedy is also clear: a prompt replacement or refund. These details make the purpose easy to understand and the ideas are generally extended with relevant explanation. To make the response more fully developed, specify the order date or number and when the interview takes place; the urgency is currently explained, but its timing is not precise. The ending is incomplete, so the letter does not finish with a complete closing request or sign-off.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible sequence: purchase and past experience, the sizing problem, its effect on the interview, and the requested solution. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “However,” “In addition,” and “As a result” make relationships between ideas clear. This gives the letter a coherent overall progression. Some linking is slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “unfortunately” and the sequence of “In addition” and “As a result.” The final sentence also stops at “I would be grateful if your,” leaving the reader without a completed conclusion. A more complete final paragraph and a concise closing would make the organisation feel more controlled and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “formal jacket,” “compulsory,” “replace my order,” and “full refund.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and naturalness: “plateform,” “receieved,” “additon,” and “repalcement” are misspelled, while “doing shopping” and “productive time” are awkward in this context. “Fortunately” also conflicts with the negative situation you are describing; “previously” would express the intended contrast more accurately. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but careful proofreading and more natural collocations would strengthen the letter’s vocabulary control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes a useful mix of simple and complex forms, such as “I have been doing shopping … for the last three years” and “I would therefore appreciate it if you could replace my order.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the conditional request is appropriately polite. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I ordered the small size however, I got large size” needs clearer punctuation and articles, while “I am unable to enter the office because formal dress code is compulsory” needs an article before “formal dress code.” The sentence beginning “I have also spent my productive time to select or order” has an awkward verb pattern. The unfinished final sentence also leaves the structure incomplete. Review articles, punctuation around contrast clauses, and verb patterns.
