Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that I have a issue with last puchasing on your website. I bought a dress and pair of jewllery which was looking very attractive on your wesite or platform then I decided to buy from there.

When I saw those things online, the colour of dress and jwellery was matching with earch other. Howerver, after few days when I recieved that parcel from Post office and I checked those items and they were not appearing as same what I was on online platform. Moreover, I chosen that dress and jewllery according to our theme on my brother reception party.

Now, because of that problem. I want to replace my item as soon as possible because I have to attend that party next day and I would like to tell you to exchange my jewllery colour as same my dress colour and I need that tomorrow morning. So, it is so urgent for me to recieve that exchanged package.

Thank you for understanding and coorpration with this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points: you identify the purchase as a dress and jewellery, explain that the delivered items do not match the online appearance, and request an urgent exchange because the reception is the next day. The reason for urgency is clear and relevant. To make the request more complete and persuasive, give specific purchase details such as the order date or reference number, state precisely what was wrong with each item, and clarify which item or items you want replaced. The letter’s purpose is clear throughout, and the main ideas are supported with the party context, although some details remain general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible sequence: purchase, problem, then the urgent request, with paragraph breaks helping the reader follow these stages. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Moreover” show an attempt to connect ideas, and the reason for the deadline is easy to locate. Some connections are less smooth, however: “Now, because of that problem” is an awkward transition, and the sentence beginning “So, it is so urgent” repeats the urgency already stated. The reference to “those things” is also broad. For stronger progression, use clearer links between the mismatch and the requested exchange, and avoid repeating the same point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “purchase,” “replace,” “exchange,” and “urgent.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less fluent, such as “puchasing,” “jewllery,” “recieved,” and “coorpration.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “not appearing as same what I was on online platform” and “exchange my jewllery colour as same my dress colour.” Choose direct, conventional expressions for a complaint, such as “the items did not match their online descriptions” and “I would like to exchange the jewellery.” Careful proofreading and more precise vocabulary would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “However” and a reason introduced by “because.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to affect smooth reading. For example, “I have a issue with last purchasing” needs a correct article and noun phrase, while “I chosen that dress” has an incorrect verb form. The clause “they were not appearing as same what I was on online platform” is difficult to follow because its structure is incomplete. Practise accurate past-tense forms and build longer sentences around a clear subject and verb; this will help you express the problem and request more precisely.
