Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I Hope you are doing well.I am writing this letter to express my disppointment with the material of the cloth that I have purchase online from your website.

I have ordered three linen shirts and two denim pants which was looking decent and easy to wear. But, when I receive the order ,the size of the shirts doesnot match the chart which you showed up on website and with that there are some threads which are coming out from the shirts. Moreover the pants I have ordered was of 34cm in waist and 30cm in length. But, when I received the pants it was totally of opposite size of what I want.

I purchased this cloth just because, I want to go for a trip in Goa and due date is still not here.So can you please send the replacement of cloth as early as you can and if it is not possible, I would like to get my refund on the same card which I have use for online purchase.

I hope you will look into my case and solve it as soon as possible,

Your Faithfully,

Parth Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requirements: you identify the purchase as three linen shirts and two pairs of denim pants, explain the sizing and stitching problems, and request a prompt replacement because you are travelling to Goa. The alternative request for a refund also makes your desired outcome clear. These details keep the letter focused and give the reader a clear reason to act. To make the response more fully developed, specify the order date or reference number and the date of your trip; “the due date is still not here” does not clearly explain how soon you need the clothing. A more precise, courteous request would also strengthen the letter’s purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a sensible sequence: you introduce your complaint, describe the shirts and pants separately, then explain the urgency and request a solution. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “So” help show how the points relate, and the closing gives the letter a clear endpoint. However, most of the content is presented in long blocks, so the purchase details, problems, and requested action are not visually separated. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “with that” and “So can you please.” Use distinct paragraphs for the purchase, the defects, and the urgent request, and choose more precise transitions to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “linen shirts,” “denim pants,” “size,” “threads,” “replacement,” and “refund.” This gives the reader a workable picture of the order and the remedy you want. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “disppointment,” “cloth” for clothing, and “decent” do not express the intended meaning naturally. Phrases such as “threads which are coming out” and “totally of opposite size” are also awkward. Build a more accurate range of complaint and clothing terms, and check spelling and collocations so your meaning sounds clear and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, for example, the sentence beginning “But, when I receive the order” and the explanation of your trip and requested replacement. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries are frequent enough to make parts of the letter difficult to read smoothly. Examples include “I have purchase,” “which was looking,” “when I receive,” and “the pants … was.” There are also run-on or poorly punctuated sentences, such as the opening where sentences run together after “well.” Practise consistent past-tense reporting of the purchase and delivery, subject–verb agreement, and separating complete sentences with appropriate punctuation.
