Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well.I am writing to tell you that last week I ordered the flower printed top from your site that is Temu.ca but the quality is not good.

Last week , I was sitting and scrolling reels on my phone , suddenly I saw the advertisement of the top from your site . It looks very beautiful including colour, quality and sizes. I decided to order it. I was very excited for that order, and when I received and opened . My excitement converted into sadness with top I get.The quality and colour of top was not that which was shown on picture. Morever , quality is not proper cotton , it was mixed due to which when I wore the etching started on my body as well as colour was also too bright.

I ordered it as it looks fancy and decided to wear on my cousin's birthday party will held next week.I hope you will consider my problem and send me the replacement as soon as possible.

Thank you

Yours Faithfully,

Yashreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three required points: you identify the flower-printed top and the website, explain that its colour and material differ from the advertisement and that wearing it caused irritation, and request a replacement. The reason for urgency is also present—the cousin’s birthday party is next week—so the reader can understand the time pressure. These details make the letter relevant and purposeful. However, the purchase information is somewhat general: an order date, order number, or other identifying detail would help the company locate it. The urgency and requested action could also be developed more explicitly, for example by asking when the replacement can arrive. This covers the task well overall, though some points are less fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe how you chose and received the item, explain the defects, and finish with the birthday deadline and request. Paragraphing helps separate the opening from the explanation and closing. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. The long middle paragraph moves from seeing the advertisement to the product’s appearance and then to the skin irritation, while phrases such as “when I received and opened” leave the action incomplete. The transition to the birthday reason is understandable but abrupt. Use clearer sentence boundaries and linking phrases to show cause and consequence, such as explaining that the fabric caused irritation and therefore cannot be worn. This would make progression more consistently easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and include relevant terms such as “flower printed top,” “quality,” “replacement,” and “birthday party.” There are also attempts to describe the product’s material and effect on your skin. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, including “my excitement converted into sadness,” “the etching started on my body,” and “quality is not proper cotton.” These expressions make parts of the complaint harder to understand. Spelling and word-form errors such as “Morever” and “colour” being described as “too bright” also affect accuracy. Aim for natural complaint-letter collocations, such as “my skin became irritated” and “the fabric was not the cotton advertised.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the top from your site that is Temu.ca” and a reason clause beginning “due to which.” The main message remains understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. Examples include “when I received and opened” (the object and verb structure are incomplete), “the birthday party will held” (the future passive form is missing “be”), and “I ordered it as it looks fancy” (the tense shifts awkwardly). There are also sentence-boundary and spacing problems, such as “doing well.I” and “I get.The.” Practise complete clauses, consistent past-tense narration, and accurate verb forms; these changes would make your varied sentence attempts clearer and more reliable.
