Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writting this letter to inform you that I have bought a pair of clothes from Amazon online which I found to be defective and not satisfied with the quality.
I bought a pair of trousers and a white coloured shirt from Amazon online on this Diwali Sale offer which costed me a total of Rs. 7500. The trousers were of deep gray coloured from the brand Raymond, the shirt was from brand Killer.
Once I started to use the product I noticed the defect of the trouser that is the quality of the fabric was very discomforting which casued me skin irritation and rashes. The white shirt was little torn below the sleeves which I noticed once I was trying it out for trail.
I am writing this email to let you know that I am not satisfied with the product I bought from your portal. I ordered these clothings because I have few interviews in the coming week and I wanted to look sharp. Its a humble request if I can get a urgent replacement for the same as the time is very short for my interview.
Kind regards,
Debojit Biswas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you identify the purchase, explain the defects, and request an urgent replacement. Details such as the brands, sale, total price, skin irritation, torn sleeve, and interviews next week make the complaint specific and relevant. The urgency is especially clear in “the time is very short for my interview.” To make the response more fully developed, specify when the order was placed or include an order reference, and state what action you expect the company to take, such as arranging collection or confirming a delivery date. The request is understandable, though a more direct and complete resolution would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: purchase details come first, followed by the problems and then the reason for urgency and the requested remedy. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and the reader can follow the complaint without difficulty. However, the opening repeats the general complaint that the items are defective and unsatisfactory, which is then explained in the next paragraph. The transition from the defects to the repeated statement “I am not satisfied” is somewhat mechanical. You could improve progression by moving directly from the specific problems to a concise replacement request, using a link such as “Given these defects…” References such as “the same” are also less clear than naming the items again.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal complaint and includes useful specific terms such as “defective,” “fabric,” “skin irritation,” “rashes,” and “replacement.” These choices communicate the problems clearly. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word forms, including “a pair of clothes,” “deep gray coloured,” “discomforting,” and “a urgent replacement.” “Clothing” is also used as a plural in “these clothings,” which is not standard. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for conventional complaint-letter phrasing and check spelling and collocations, particularly when describing the items and the effect of the fabric.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which I noticed once I was trying it out” and the reason clause explaining your interviews. The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I have bought” is less suitable for a completed purchase with a stated past time, and “which costed me” has an incorrect verb form. In “I have few interviews,” an article is needed, while “if I can get” does not fit smoothly after “request.” There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation issues, such as the long opening sentence. Review tense choice, articles, and the structure of polite requests; more accurate control would make the letter sound more professional.
