Student answer (Band 6.0)

Society has nowadays become more and more social and people are making friends anywhere in regards of the place. A few people believe that it is a good choice to socialise with workmates during afternoon and weekends. However, other people believe that it is crucial to make distance between working life and social life. This essay will elucidate the both views in details and why I agree with the former viewpoint.

On the one hand, people wants to spend time with their work colleagues, as it will make their bonds more strong. To expound, when workmates are more hanging out they will more able to know each others choices and interests. For example, they are aware about their likes and dislikes which makes friendship bonds. Moreover, they have more things to share and enjoy after learning about each other. This is how in work place they stay more happy and share thier work loads. Aforementioned reasons are prove that socialise with workmates is a good idea.

On the other hand, people feel that there should be boundaries between work and social life as they do not want to stay in work environment even outside of the work. By this I mean that, individuals feel irritate when they have to talk or spend time with workmates because they want to stay out of the work world. For instance, some people are not making any friends from the workplace and staying in distance.

To conclude and offer my position, I support with the former opinion. Although making boundaries between work and social life is crucial, by spending time with colleagues make worklife happier as they are aware about their interests and choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for socialising with colleagues, so the response is relevant to the task. The first view is supported with reasons about learning colleagues’ interests and building stronger relationships, and the example of sharing workloads connects this to the workplace. However, the opposing view is less developed: you say people want to leave the work environment behind and give a brief example of keeping distance, but do not explain the benefits of this separation in much detail. Your conclusion repeats your position but adds little further reasoning. To strengthen the response, develop both sides more evenly and explain the consequences of each view with a specific, relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” makes the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some of the flexibility expected at the next level. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Aforementioned reasons are prove that…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding explanation, and “By this I mean that” introduces a point that could be stated more directly. The final paragraph also repeats earlier ideas rather than synthesising them. Use clearer references and vary transitions while ensuring each sentence advances the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “work colleagues,” “boundaries,” “interests,” and “work environment.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “elucidate” and “viewpoint.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less natural: “in regards of the place,” “make distance,” and “work loads” are examples. Spelling errors such as “thier” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than inserting formal words where they do not fit. For instance, “maintain a separation” and “spend time together” would express your ideas more idiomatically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “when,” and “because,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. Examples include “people wants,” “they will more able to know,” and “reasons are prove.” The sentence “when workmates are more hanging out” also shows difficulty forming a natural verb pattern. Some sentences are awkwardly joined or punctuated, as in “By this I mean that, individuals feel irritate…” To improve, check agreement and verb forms systematically, and practise building complex sentences with accurate clause structure. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make your argument easier to read.
