Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that socializing can boost confidence and help colleagues know each other, the explanation remains superficial. Similarly, the argument for keeping work and life separate is repetitive and lacks specific, well-supported examples. The essay touches on the prompt's requirements, but the arguments are not fully extended or explored in depth, which prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by a detailed explanation and a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'However', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Moving to family' as a transition. Additionally, some sentences lack clear logical links, making the flow feel disjointed at times. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the pronoun 'they' is used without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some basic or repetitive phrasing, such as 'daily life' and 'good idea'. There are also instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'sparking topic erupting' and 'relives their stress' (likely meaning 'relieves'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or idiomatic language limits the score. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to work-life balance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('ideas often comes out', 'person try to social life') and awkward phrasing ('during to hectic schedule'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and some sentences are grammatically incomplete or confusing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to be noticeable. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for common errors in tense and word order.
