Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that they need to maintain social difference from their colleagues after work in order to maintain balance between work and personal life. while other thinks that socializing with co-workers during weekends or evenings after work can strengthen their bond. I personally believe that employees should socialize with each other as it helps them to make new friends and spend some quality time co-workers.

On the one hand, people who prefer to keep only professional relationship with their colleague want to maintain a balance between their personal life and working life. After a long day at work they prefer to spend their time with their family. During their weekends they prioritize to go out with their family instead of hanging out with their colleague. By creating boundaries they are able to spend some quality with family and maintain a balance between personal and life. For Instance, mostly employees with family or children avoid evenings or weekends gathering with their employees in order to spend their time family. they rather go for a movie or park with their family to spend memorable time with them.

On the other hand, some employees prefer to socialize with other employees in order to make new friends. During their gathering they talk and share their life incidents with each others, which helps them to grow their bond stronger. Moreover, this attitude among employees bring a positive environment to workplace. For example, when employees become friends with each other they communicate clearly with each other which reduces major conflicts significantly. Therefore, employees gathering after work helps them to make new friends and enjoy their work life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the conclusion is incomplete, as it cuts off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the position. While the ideas are relevant, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second paragraph where the benefits of socializing are discussed. To reach a higher band, ensure that the conclusion is fully realized and that the arguments are extended with more nuanced analysis rather than repeating similar points about 'making friends' and 'bonding'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to link ideas. However, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'their employees' when referring to colleagues. Additionally, the abrupt ending of the essay negatively impacts the overall coherence. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring a complete, cohesive conclusion would significantly enhance the structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'strengthen their bond' and 'professional relationship'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'social difference' instead of 'social distance' and 'weather' instead of 'whether'. The range is sufficient to communicate, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'other thinks', 'this attitude... bring') and missing articles or prepositions (e.g., 'spend their time family'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization at the start of sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score to the 6.0 band.
