Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, fulfilling the task requirements. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph provides a clear example (Google), but the second body paragraph is less clear; the argument that strict policies improve productivity is presented, but the reasoning regarding 'labours' and 'ethical behaviour' is slightly confusing and lacks a concrete example. The position is clear, but the conclusion could be more explicitly linked to the personal opinion requested in the prompt. Overall, the ideas are relevant but could be expanded with more logical depth to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'On the contrary', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Prior to my opinion' in the introduction, which is not a standard phrase. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed due to grammatical issues. The progression of ideas is evident, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is always smooth and logical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'professionalism', 'productivity', and 'constructive feedback'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'get mingle' (should be 'mingling'), 'abundant employees' (likely meant 'prevent' or 'forbid'), and 'in a favor of' (should be 'in favor of'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on learning common collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction. Examples include 'the topic is about to separate' (should be 'about separating'), 'the approach to get familiar' (should be 'the approach of getting familiar'), and 'productivity growing immensely' (should be 'productivity grows immensely'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage. The errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, although they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. Increased attention to subject-verb agreement and verb patterns is recommended.
